Last Thursday Twitter's algorithms busted me and suspended my account for what they read as a hateful tweet. My latest email from Twitter says their staff has reviewed my case and confirms that I am a hater. Hmm - I can feel myself getting radicalized!
As background, I was engaged in a bit of back-and-forth about the Vietnamese cop who was busted for entering the Capitol Rotunda during the January 6 debacle. He initially lied to the FBI investigators about his involvement, then said he only entered the Rotunda to admire the art. Not a strong story!
As to my hate-filled rant, here it is (I'm blanking out the other folks in the exchange.):
Yeah, a steaming bow of oatmeal, but I was blocked from Twitter within seconds of hitting "Reply" so their algorithms clearly saw something they didn't like. Maybe their algorithms think I'm expressing my support for white supremacy? I don't know and Twitter won't say.
Twitter Justice is interesting, I have learned. I was offered a choice of (a) delete the Tweet and take a 12 hour time-out, with a permanent mark in my file as a hater; or (b) appeal. By appealing, I lost all Twitter access in that account, including my list of followers or any ability to DM them.
Five days later, I received an email about my appeal saying that
"Our support team has determined that a violation did take place, and therefore we will not overturn our decision."
So now I know! Does their support team include humans? That I do not know. I am intrigued to see their Reader-run tool, "Birdbrain". NO! That's not it. "Birdbath"? Birdwatch! But their algo system has real shortcomings, IMHO.
ERRATA:
The first takedown notice explained my situation and choices:
And their follow-up on my appeal said this:
Our support team has determined that a violation did take place, and therefore we will not overturn our decision. |

I went back to Revel's book The Flight from Truth to mull over some of what is being admitted in webinars and recent papers and the implications of it.
He had the best phrase of how most people go through life--'hearsay culture'. We are supposed to simply accept the hearsay that there was an insurrection at the capitol, it was a 'free and fair election' last November, and it was White Supremacists running around in C'ville with those tiki torches staging a photo op.
Inadmissible in court, but now we want to run our society calling out anyone unwilling to rely on hearsay as a 'conspiracy theorist'.

"No Democrat will ask whether Maxine Waters incited violence when she literally told her supporters" to confront Trump officials in public.

Offering a counter-history of how mass popular change has occurred, from the democratic revolutions overthrowing dictators to the movement against apartheid and for women’s suffrage, Malm argues that the strategic acceptance of property destruction and violence has been the only route for revolutionary change. In a braided narrative that moves from the forests of Germany and the streets of London to the deserts of Iraq, Malm offers us an incisive discussion of the politics and ethics of pacifism and violence, democracy and social change, strategy and tactics, and a movement compelled by both the heart and the mind. Here is how we fight in a world on fire.

The information war rages. This via Instapundit:
When Amazon rejected my documentary What Killed Michael Brown? from its platform last October, I was stunned by the rejection letter’s finality. The film had failed to meet Amazon’s “content quality expectations,” was “not eligible for publishing,” and there could be no “resubmission of this title and this decision may not be appealed.” After rereading the letter several times, I was left with the eerie feeling that I had done something immoral for which I deserved to be ashamed. Fortunately the film was written, presented, and narrated by my father Shelby Steele whose years as an acclaimed author and op-ed writer for the Wall Street Journal had made him a public intellectual. When I told the writers at the Journal what had happened, they responded with several critical articles, and Amazon promptly reversed its decision and agreed to host my film on their platform, where it remains to this day.

Just a little experience as an exercise in OpEding:
The thing about those XL jobs lost is not the immediate total but the domino effect. The project would have required trained fitters, operators (side booms, trenchers, etc) and especially welders. So, now we will have a back-fill only deficit of trained and experienced skilled workers. And, just coding will not help.
My experience in engineering, construction included training and certifying skilled crafts. Where will they be when we need them? Just because we don't have a plethora of power plant construction or new pipelines doesn't mean there will no more. When we finally choke the electric grid (which is near BTW)who will step up to expand it and build new power. Electricity by solar, wind or farts is not going to save expansion.
So, if Xiden all of sudden says, "hey we need more power", where does it think it will come from? To build a combined cycle plant is maybe 2 years now. A baseload coal fired plant (as if) is 3-4 years. A big Nuke? Fagetaboutit.
Where is our national energy policy to fire up Slo Joes build and buy America/
The Chinese are laughing at us and mostly because we can plan beyond a 24 hour news cycle.

Looks like twitter uses the “have you stopped beating your wife” strategy.
Speaking of people not up on the facts, here are a few things that I read and heard this week - and it’s only Tuesday.
Article in the Cape Cod Times - front page top of the fold - regarding Cape seniors upset at the slow distribution of the vaccine. A woman is quoted, and she is upset because her friends in FL, TX, and some other states are nearly ready for their second dose. The writer then does a decent job describing the path the Baker admin is taking. That path has been discussed here, and it’s not what the Trump admin had recommended. In the end she quotes the same woman saying that Trump has favorite states and states that he hates, and that why she’s not getting the vaccine yet. Huh?
Customer in the store yesterday - who last week commented to me, “Yeah, Trump is gone!” I replied, “Let’s see what happens.” (This was at the post office while minding my own business) - stated that he thought he should get a shot, and clearly the feds aren’t effectively managing the roll-out. We informed him it was Baker’s plan that was messed up, and each state sets it’s own plan. He was bs when he heard criminals were ahead of him. This man has more money than God, but few brain cells.
Another customer yesterday said he had a fight with his neighbor about Trump. He likes Trump. I told him neighbor buys a lot here but is a complete lefty who told me the Cape Cod Times (owned by the NY Times) is too conservative, so don’t worry about it. Then he said a man living around the corner has a Thin Blue Line flag hanging, and has cameras. A woman known to that man stopped walking her dogs to put an anonymous note on his house, “That flag won’t protect you.” Apparently he found her email address and send a clip of her posting the note as well as a photo of his LTC. Yikes!
People are angry, and many are completely mis-informed. And it’s only been six days! I’ll just keep trying to get the facts out there.

Rose gambled on baseball while he was a player, gambled on baseball - including his own team’s games - as a manager, and he knew as everyone in baseball does, that gambling is the one death penalty rule, no exceptions.
Heck, back in the 70’s they banned Willie Mays from MLB activities for a couple of years when he worked at a casino after his playing career was over.
Rose stays out, forever.
