Are there enough non Chamber R Senators to even want to stop this via filibuster?

You can add the gang of 8 types (Rubio, Graham) to the #nevertrump core, plus jerks like Sasshole. They will roll over so fast Schumer won’t have to end the filibuster.

Tom R

I have no reason to doubt that Democrats will follow thru on their threat to kill the filibuster. TM appears to be oblivious of the fact that once that happens thanks to people like him the GOP will no longer have a chance to derail anything the Democrats want.

I think we'll be bleading out like ebola or hemorrhagic fever

Former Obama official Andy Slavitt was recently appointed to Biden’s team as “senior advisor for Covid response.” Known for his frequent “Twitterhea” length fear-mongering threads preaching subservience, we’ve saved some of his greatest hits so that no one doubt his character.

Willowed;
-- I think we all know Biden will be a short-timer.--

Possibly but I have previously expressed my doubts in this area.
I think he is less demented and more tenacious than he is generally given credit for.
I think he is a tough, crooked, corrupt, quite maggoty survivor and if someone wants to knock him off they better not miss. He is without a doubt a moron, but he is sly and cunning and has sharp elbows. I'm not sure Harris oughtn't to watch her back more than him, because she seems to be few of the things Biden is, besides corrupt and nasty.

GUS

what a GRACIOUS ASS.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--And yes, I'm already getting sick of all the winning.--

Sorry, John Paul Maguire, but you have not yet begun to get sick.
Before Cap'n Joe is through America will be the sick man of North America.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

Ig,

Perhaps. It will all probably depend on who the CCP will be more advantageous to them. They are in de facto control of America right now.

Narciso

We'll be in competition with canada for that honor.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

who the CCP thinks will be more advantageous to them

Kathryn Anne

Henry:
Agree with you. These republicans that were just re-elected have nothing to lose because they are good for the next 6 years.
I am going to make a long term prediction.
I no longer believe that we will have a president who serves more than one term.
Each party will concentrate on ousting the opposing party from power.
Impeachment will occur for each one and will not pass the Senate.
I still say 2 terms max for senators and bring the number to 4 years instead of 6 just to keep them honest.
For House members 3 terms max of 2 years each.
New election rules for states which only the legislature can control.
Big restraints on governors.
If you look at which people ultimately did President Trump wrong- it was mostly women Secretaries of State in Michigan, Pennsylvania and goofy governors in Georgia and Arizona. SOS in Georgia and Nevada - downright paid off crooks.
Wisconsin- again a good ball Governor.
Finally local and state races have to be paid attention to and dealt with ahead of the election.

Narciso

They would want a more vigorous figurehead i think.

Kathryn Anne

Good should be goof and Evers probably got elected due to voter fraud which was never corrected, hence fraud and cheating in 2020.

My husband said he was going to stop buying the Times but he bought it this morning and then got grumpy about all the fake news. What's cool is, to let off steam, he stormed outside and trimmed the two story laurel bush I hate to a really nice low height and tidied up the hedges too. So that's what fake news is good for!

Captain Hate

I think Mel has pointed out previously that the credit card companies are more responsible for Sundown's longevity in office than the fecklessness of the Uniparty-R. All I remember is Rove's meltdown on tv when the primary voters chose COD over the great Mike Castle and thinking "this isn't a well run state party".

MissMarple2

I am going to my grandson's birthday this afternoon. My son is picking me up since he has some errands on this side of town, and I will be leaving shortly.

I am sure all sorts of interesting things will happen while I am gone, so take good notes!

fdcol63 🇺🇸

I’d be okay if we reversed the 17th Amendment and went back to State legislatures appointing Senators.

This fundamentally changed the relationship between the States and the Federal government, and just created another party and campaign finance mechanism through which real power was taken from the people despite its apparent intent.

Narciso

The difference between the local fishwrsp and the times is its shorter but still chock full of pablum.

Narciso

Yes she did abput as average as the local dupont (copeland) and some scientist type tsang

Manuel Transmission

Just sat through two videos at STG Reports at the encouragement of one of my buds (I generally can’t deal with long videos) that discuss the Trump takeover on Wednesday morning. It has all the juicy bits that have been circulating for many days. But a devious idea popped into my head: Plugs and the Ho are sacrificial pawns knowingly in on the game! That would explain Plug’s utter lack of campaigning and the Ho’s unwillingness to resign her Senate seat. :-) Win, Win!!

Captain Hate

Yes the seventeenth amendment makes me wonder if the Constitution was ever effectively taught in school.

Kathryn Anne

TM:
I think the republicans will paper over their differences but Liz Cheney will be out.
She doesn’t represent the majority of the House Republicans.
Also I am counting on many of these old people in the House to die in the next 4 years.
Dems have no bench and no one prepared to take over that can be agreed upon.
That is why they keep re-electing tired and crazy Pelosi.
Repubs have many possible presidential candidates and I like the idea of Ivanka Trump as. VP candidate.
Has anyone thought if Trump had chosen a different VP this time around it would have made a difference?

BuffyUK

There is no advertising in any of these papers. They are surviving on full page ads for government stuff and mypillow.co.uk. Bill and Melinda Gates pay the millions it costs to run the Guardian but it's off the charts boring. Plus, the paper is such poor quality, you couldn't wrap your happy fish in it as it would drop right through.

Captain Hate

the Ho’s unwillingness to resign her Senate seat.

That is a puzzler.

Kathryn Anne

Agree the filibuster will be eliminated, so let us make sure we win back the Senate snd House in 2022.

BuffyUK

Only a few more days to indulge that fantasy.

Narciso

The mail and the express are somewhat entertaining does anyone by the express in hard copy?

Captain Hate

Has anyone thought if Trump had chosen a different VP this time around it would have made a difference?

I think Pence's recent role has been poorly defined, in part because news reporting is just straight propaganda. So the answer is somewhere between "probably not" and "I don't know".

fdcol63 🇺🇸

Please .... no Ivanka, or ANY dynastic career politicians!

A country of 330 Million people can certainly come up with new politicians rather than perpetuating the oligarchy of elites who have helped ruin the country.

No matter how much we may like individual politicians like Trump himself.

God ... that’s how we got the Kennedy’s, Bushes, Clintons, Sununus, Cuomos, Murkowskis, Romney’s, et al, ad nauseum.

Manuel Transmission

Agreed, Buffy. It is a wonderful fantasy and there are several elements that add some validity to it. Given the alternative likely results in lots of spent brass and pools of blood, I have all fingers and toes crossed.

Narciso

But it has its share of head scratchers

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1385155/Tax-rises-rishi-sunak-stamp-duty-council-tax-march-budget

Captain Hate

I may have misunderstood the question but the answers are the same. If you were asking if it would have made any difference in the election, Trump was still the Big Dog and any excitement a Ric Grenell, for example, might have provided may have been offset by people who liked Pence being miffed.

Kathryn Anne

Buffy:
Agree now that fantasy truly is magical thinking.
OL:
Again I want to say you were right in predicting how this could all play out.
Just to set the record straight.
Comey and McCabe, Strzok , Page and Priestap were never ever the good guys. They thought they could take down a sitting President.
Well they thought wrong!
All is being revealed, and though Hillary will skate , we all know for a certainty that her treason and dirty dossier political trick will go down in infamy.
Best of all she didn’t get to be president.
Her plot and that of the FBI , DOJ and State Dept did not derail President Trump.Ge finished his FULL term and like Clintonnbrfore stayed until the very last hour of his presidency.
Everyone now knows who the grifters and liars are and we won’t forget,
Onto impeaching that pretender to the throne ,Biden.

henry

fdcol, don’t forget Murkowski in that list of times a condom could have saved the world.

I agree. No Ivanka, or Don Jr.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

“... so let us make sure we win back the Senate snd House in 2022...

With what? The very same electoral system that we relied on in 2020?

Neither the Dems or the GOPe are going to make any substantive changes to prevent electoral fraud in the future because they BOTH are complicit in and benefit from this fraud and corruption.

That’s just a fact.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

henry ... I specifically listed them, even before Romney! Look again.

Captain Hate

Oh c'mon fdcol, Dan "Maverick 2 minus the planecrashes" Crenshaw has promised *he* will solve the election problems. Don't you believe him?

henry

fdcol, 1. Some need to be listed twice. 2. I need new glasses. 3. The magic power of “and”

Kathryn Anne

CH:
Trump already had Indiana in the bag.
If he had chosen someone from Georgia or Arizona or Michigan would it have made a difference.
One of my biggest disappointments was that I think James’s Senate race was affected by the fraud as was Perdue’s in Georgia. If he had a minority on the ticket would they still have won by such small margins in Nevada, Arizona and Georgia?

Narciso

Thats not the express's fault its the logic of taxing people who are barely hanging on as it

henry

Some things never surprise me.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

CH,

I may respect Crenshaw and trust he will do all he can to live up to that promise. But he’s just one man in a UniParty of kleptocrats and corrupt Deep Staters.

Sadly.

Kathryn Anne

Fdcol63:
I disagree. The people will elect legislatures that remember what transpired in 2030.
Those Michigan scaredy cats that certified that election will experience the consequences of their foolishness when Biden raises their taxes, gas prices, and healthcare costs.
If people continue to be intimidated fools they will be ruled by other dopes and persons who despise them.

Kathryn Anne

2030s/b 2020.

Clarice:
Wonderful article today!
2020 was an election that showed the full extent of the perfidy the Dems are capable of and it will not be forgotten.
My question remains:
Will the votes of illegals, dead people, votes that exceeded 100 percent, votes from people who no longer live there(Nevada) be stricken from the final count?
What about 200,000 extra unaccounted for votes in Pennsylvania and the remaining lawsuits.
When do we get the final tallies from the states?
Or are fraudulent votes just included unlawfully in the count?

Tom R

Neither the Dems or the GOPe are going to make any substantive changes to prevent electoral fraud in the future because they BOTH are complicit in and benefit from this fraud and corruption.

Which is why I said Trump should have released all the Dominion evidence to the public. If the judicial system refuses to allow a trial on the matter then at least try to win the case in the court of public opinion.

James D.

All I remember is Rove's meltdown on tv when the primary voters chose COD over the great Mike Castle and thinking "this isn't a well run state party".

And that right there (along with Murkowski refusing to just go away after losing her primary, and the GOP supporting her write-in effort) demonstrated that the GOP establishment is absolutely full of shit 24/7/365, and will never, ever change.

James D.

the Ho’s unwillingness to resign her Senate seat.

I understand why politicians would hate the idea, but if we ever did have CH's Article V convention, one amendment I'd like to see is that if you hold any federal office (elected, appointed or simply an employee), you must resign that office, effective immediately, the moment you submit paperwork or begin fundraising to run for a different office.

Running for office is a full-time job; how can anyone possibly be expected to do their current job competently if they're spending all their time campaigning and fundraising?

And since that would give incumbents a huge advantage, that amendment would have to be paired with term limits - 2 terms for the Senate, 6 for the House, and no more than 18 years in ANY federal elected or appointed office.

anonamom

TC Which exit did you get off at to go to BCH, anonamom? Did you get off at the Mass Ave exit near the now long gone Bickford's (which in the early morning hours was a zone of truce for the hookers, pimps and cops)?

Yep, the Mass Ave exit, if I went that way. Otherwise, drove from Brookline down Mass Ave.
TC, that was 42 years ago!!

James D.

And yes, I'm already getting sick of all the winning.

Well, then, maybe you shouldn't have voted for a crooked dementia patient, a communist whore, and a party that openly wants to wreck the economy and considers you a deplorable white supremacist potential domestic terrorist.

It's not like they were keeping quiet about any of that before the election, TM.

anonamom

MT, here is a far more reality based take on what might be happening Wednesday than the "sit tight, all is well" stuff coming in from all kinds of places

If the Republicans in Georgia, PA and AZ are worth their stones they will enact law to ensure the integrity of the ballot in their new sessions.

That is a wholly reasonable position in light of the mess of 2020.

What's a yanny bush?

Captain Hate

Pennsylvania had a fine law in place, until it was illegally changed by a state official and not the legislature. Laws mean nothing when the mob wants to do something. Pennsylvania deserves to have insurrection after what was done.

joan

Ig, on the last thread you posted this:

"I think he is less demented and more tenacious than he is generally given credit for.
I think he is a tough, crooked, corrupt, quite maggoty survivor and if someone wants to knock him off they better not miss."

I wrote then deleted a post about the dementia. I don't think he's demented. Of course he's worn around the edges, but that just means more of what he really is will be exposed. There won't be more self-indulgence because when was that ever curtailed before?

joan

I forgot to say that I was relieved to see someone like you sort of agreeing with what I've been thinking.

Also, I had fun writing my comment. I've gotten more careful about using names (guess I'm paranoid) so I used the gender neutral 'they' as his name. (Had to look up gender neutral to remind myself what it was called.) Anyway, as I said, it was a sort of fun mental exercise writing about they's dementia, corruption, etc. Wonder how all of those crazy people manage to think like that?

Tom R

If Biden isn't suffering from dementia then what is the correct medical term to describe someone suffering from some form of cognitive impairment that creates the perception he does not know where he is, what day of the week it is, and says "end of quote" when reading the last words on the teleprompter?

BuffyUK

I've seen people buy and carry the D. Mail, never the Express.

The UK gov has been buying the only big ads in papers for a while, which is why all the "taxes will be raised" articles are so low key. It's going to get hairy. There are so many stealth taxes already here, sales tax is 20%, to pay for the BBC is about a dollar a day...I predict they'll increase inheritance tax first.

Raising corporate tax won't happen because everyone wants an excuse to live in Dublin anyway.

Narciso

I remember when i lived in south florida we had a neighbor from the uk that brought the daily mail with him.

Until some county election supervisors get it good and hard, the fraud is not stopping.

Doesn’t matter what the state legislatures do.

Just who is going to go supervise the supervisors?

Looting Target or looting votes, what’s the difference?

Jim Eagle

Are we giving too much respect to the Camel's Toe and Sleepy Joe? I think they are both over-rated in IQ, personality and political sense. Biden hasn't had a unique or original thoheught ever in his life. Kamala is a typical San Fran machine pol.

By the way, Crenshaw may be out of fandom with others but I have faith in his political and social tendencies. Sometimes you have to get along in order to point along. Give him some flex.

joan

BuffyUK, I subscribed to the Times and really enjoyed the Sunday Times (way back when) -- it was left of me, but they had so many interesting articles. We also subscribed to the International Herald Tribune (I guess it's changed, now owned by NYT, though it was never conservative.) I guess I also subscribed to the Evening Standard (that was my go-to paper). There was another one we got regularly. As my son got older, I would find The Sun hidden in his room. :) The breasts were eye-popping. Think it was The Sun.

We had a cleaning lady who came twice a week, Spanish, devout Catholic, and I told him it would horrify Carmen to see those newspapers, so he agreed to be careful and/or leave them at his friends. Think they shared them. :) This was about 8th grade or so for him. He went all the way through school at ASL while we were there. Big shock bringing him home during senior year, though he went back to graduate.

Jim Eagle

Daily Mail is not a broadsheet (i.e not serious:) but they have the best website between them and the Times and Telly.

Buffy and Joan,

I used to buy the Sunday NYTimes at my news seller Glousceter Road tube station for 5 quid every Monday just for the crossword puzzle in the magazine. But, yes, every evening getting on the tube the Evening Standard was mandatory reading.

Once in a while someone would drop an Irish Times which was a fun read especially the weather column. Forgot the guy's name but he wrote a book around all of his columns. Hilarious.

joan

TK ... you sort of agree?

Joe has been a gaffe machine for 45 years. he has also been an evil bastard for just as long. He sold out South Vietnam and then he sold out the Vietnamese refugees. That was at the outset of his career.

He allowed the credit card companies to charge exorbitant rates until they were finally reined in, which hurt the middle class most of all. he has a history of being dead wrong on the issues and as his former boss said of him:

"Don't underestimate Joe's ability to F things up"

A hell of a job reference there.

He has insulted his political opponents all of his life as well as ordinary citizens. he is not a nice person despite the mask.

henry, Mara Liasson reported the same this morning on NPR--orgasmically. She was beyond thrilled that "experts in governance would be governing again."

You know, instead the know-nothing and his crew who got shit done.

Odd how I didn't notice two of the four crisis were even a "thing". (Climate change, which we call weather at my house, and race. Which I had been assured did NOT exist in med school.)

And I do believe the economic downturn is directly related to misguide policies dealing with the first (Covid) which I would not classify as a crisis. It's a seasonal virus that is in a pandemic stage.

Dave (in MA)

Buffy, it was a dumb reference to this stupid phenomenon from 3 years ago.

China: from one of the vids, their production is shut down in many areas. No chips coming out of Taiwan so you can’t make cars, etc. so the implication is once Plugs is in, they’ll have free reign on taking over the island. And the current clown running S.
