Joe Biden's First Day agenda includes a proposal for comprehensive immigration reform. Just as Dems divide over the Green New Deal and Medicare For All but unite in loathing Trump, the fractured Republican Party will come together to derail the latest run at immigration reform.
In a nightmare scenario the moderate Dems in the Senate (Sinema, Manchin) are so committed to giving Biden this win that they vote to change the Senate rules and eliminate the filibuster. More likely, immigration again goes nowhere.
Biden's website on immigration is here; he links to a 2013 CBO study assessing that attempt at reform. Their summary: more workers leads to a larger economy, but smaller on a Per Capita basis; until skills and jobs alignn, unemployment rises (a bit) and wages fall (a bit). The return on capital rises, however, since it is slightly scarcer relative to labor.
So for Chamber of Commerce Republicans its all winning - more customers, cheaper workers, higher return on capital.
For Democrats, more unskilled workers plus the Biden Fantasy Minimum Wage of $15 should boost unemployment but (more importantly!) boost the need for the sort of compassionate safety net Democrats live to provide. More winning!
And yes, I'm already getting sick of all the winning.
From CBO on the 2013 immigration bill:
Allow me to correct myself before anyone else does; apparently she hasn't resigned it yet and Newsom picked Padilla provisionally for when she does.

The correct term for that is cherry picking. If all these people look at is the part where he sounds like an imbecile and ignore where he doesn't you get an inaccurate picture.
Cherry picking? I don't think so. It's an exception to the norm when Biden can get thru a public appearance without spewing out gibberish at some point or acting like he doesn't know what is going on.

Joan that's a sweet story about your son. I never minded those pages while travelling on the tube. I would look too and marvel at the perfect breasts.
No one has been reading a paper on public transport for ages. Everyone's on their phone.
Dave, I remember that was a thing but I never listened to figure it out.
Jack and Dave and Joan: There was a time when all the printed matter in the UK was fantastic, from Private Eye, to the sex mad papers like News of the World and the Sun (which was always lying around on every film set). Broadsheets wanted to be taken seriously. There was great joy reading each one, they had different stories and readable pundits.
Now they all use the same photographs and write the political stories from the same script, so why wouldn't I read for free on the internet? All the journalists I know are unemployed, nobody's advertising, and my newspaper addiction has been conquered.

Also, my daughter in law couldn't understand why my mother watched the Queen's Coronation. My son thought this was funny, and told her our family watched everything like that: coronations, royal weddings, state funerals, etc. Even the election of the Popes and we weren't Catholic. HA!
Her family watches none of that, and I assume are part of the population who doesn't know any of this stuff is happening.
