Unity - how does it work?
Peggy Noonan, the Grand Dame, nails this about the inauguration:
Lady Gaga looking delightfully freakish, and killing it. China, you have penetrated every data cloud and downloaded every invention, you have discipline and determination and believe the future is yours, but you don’t have Lady Gaga.
Hours after taking the unprecedented step of firing top federal labor prosecutor Peter Robb, President Joe Biden fired his successor.
At 11:22 a.m. Thursday, the National Labor Relations Board announced that Deputy General Counsel Alice Stock would replace Robb as acting general counsel, overseeing enforcement of federal labor law. By 5 p.m she was out the door after defying a White House request for her resignation. Stock called Biden's maneuverings legally dubious and a threat to the "validity of any replacement" at the agency.
"Given the dubious legality of the January 20, 2021 removal of Mr. Robb as General Counsel of the NLRB … it would be detrimental to the operations of the NLRB for me to resign my position," she said in a letter obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. "The events of yesterday—the abrupt and unceremonious removal of General Counsel Robb—are unfortunate for our country and to those who believed that this administration intended to follow the traditions and rules of law in our democracy."

BREAKING NEWS: The Wisconsin Senate has just released a joint resolution to end Governor Evers’ most recent declaration of a state of emergency for COVID-19. Ending the state of emergency would also end the Governor’s current statewide mask mandate.
“It is incumbent upon the three branches of government to act as checks on one another's power in order to vigorously protect and defend the principle of structurally separated and limited power, so as to protect the governed from abusive government,” the resolution says.
But “legislative oversight is rendered useless if the governor ignores the temporal limitations on the emergency powers by continuously reissuing emergency declarations for the same emergency,” the resolution says.
Evers’ first 60-day state of emergency expired on May 11, but the res. notes that the legis. never voted to extend his state of emergency.
“The governor had no authority to issue Executive Order #104 on January 19, 2021, and it was therefore void from the date of its issuance.”
An aide to Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) says the resolution is expected to be taken up on the Senate floor next week, according to The Cap Times.

Biden’s militarized inauguration showcased Democrats’ insecurity.
By Glenn H. Reynolds,January 21, 2021 | 5:40pm
"...But the whole aura was less Lincoln and more bananas. As in banana republic.
Abe Lincoln had fewer troops to defend Washington during the Civil War, even though the Confederate capital of Richmond was just down the road. LBJ used only about half as many troops to put down the 1968 riots that killed more than a dozen, injured hundreds and did property damage that lasted decades.
Having filled the nation’s capital with enough soldiers to invade a small country, the Democrats went further and suggested that the National Guard troops might not be trustworthy..."

I am thinking that letting the sham impeachment trial happen will not be a bad thing. It either will or will not get going with no concerin of my thoughts??? HOWEVER, The dumbokrat theory is that Trump by “lying” about the stolen election since November caused 5 or 6 people to break things and swipe a computer. (A few dozen more allowed in the building by guards were onlookers.) That he signaled them to do it in the last minutes of a speech that didn’t end until after these folks started wreaking havoc.
When these allegations are made, the trump legal team may then introduce days and days of evidence of election fraud and trickery. I would hope that the presiding judge (Roberts?) would insist that a defense against the allegations must be allowed.
Am I naive?

Willowed MM:
"Number of executive orders signed by past presidents vs. Biden, in their first couple weeks in office:
Trump: 4
Obama: 8
G.W. Bush: 2
Clinton: 2
H.W. Bush: 1
Reagan: 1
Biden: 17. So far."
-----
This, in one simple statement, illustrates the nature of the Left in all things.
They are like a Ratchet. If for any reason their progress leftward stops for a time, once allowed to move again, they always start right where they left off. So the right metric to look at is the number of Biden EO's per time period vs Obama's rate of EO when he left office.
I suspect he is right on track.

As Instapundit says:
Heinlein's "Crazy Years", indeed.
https://www.knoxnews.com/story/opinion/columnists/glenn-reynolds/2017/08/27/welcome-our-crazy-years-robert-heinlein-science-technology/595145001/
Quoting A.E. Van Vogt:
"...'craziness' comes when beliefs don’t match facts:
“Craziness can be measured by maladaptive behavior. The behavior the society uses to solve one kind of problem, when applied to an incorrect category, disorients it. When this happens the whole society, even if some members are aware of the disorientation, cannot reach the correct conclusion, or react in a fashion that preserves society from harm. As if society were a dolphin that called itself a fish: when it suffered the sensation of drowning, it would dive. But a dolphin is a mammal, a member of a different category of being. When dolphins are low on air, they surface, rather than dive. Putting yourself in the wrong category leads to the wrong behavior."
Or as Yuri Bezmenov said about Soviet "ideological subversion":
"What it basically means is: to change the perception of reality of every American to such an extent that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country."
On "demoralization":
"As I mentioned before, exposure to true information does not matter anymore," said Bezmenov. "A person who was demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell nothing to him. Even if I shower him with information, with authentic proof, with documents, with pictures; even if I take him by force to the Soviet Union and show him [a] concentration camp, he will refuse to believe it, until he [receives] a kick in his fan-bottom. When a military boot crashes his balls then he will understand. But not before that. That's the [tragedy] of the situation of demoralization."
About "demoralized" people:
"They are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli in a certain pattern [alluding to Pavlov]. You can not change their mind even if you expose them to authentic information. Even if you prove that white is white and black is black, you still can not change the basic perception and the logic of behavior."
Bezmenov further said that demoralization is a process that is "irreversible".
Sadly, I don't think America is salvageable unless something catastrophic occurs and a purging of "demoralized" people can occur.

OL,
Indeed. Our problems have been so much larger than one man ... even a GREAT man ... could fix in 4-8 years, no matter how much 4D he could play.
Some around here think I'm much too pessimistic. I am.
Not because I don't think America and freedom will ultimately prevail. I'm sure it will.
But I've been pessimistic because I do indeed believe that we have many, many dark days ahead.
Many years of conflict, strife, blood, destruction, and lost opportunities to pass through before we can restore America.
Like Germany, Japan, Russia, and other countries that are still here after their dark years, I believe America will ultimately survive.
But at a cost that could have been prevented, had we heeded the advice of history.

FD@1:51--
When I went back earlier in the week to find when I had covered what Adaptation actually means and reread those posts I wrote at ISC in april 2014, it turned out there was a quote recognizing that the same techniques used by the Nazis, terrorist training camps, and brainwashing were to be used on students. Supposedly the "prosocial purposes" of the student required practices made the same techniques acceptable. No allegation they were the same or functioned the same. Open admission.
Just got off a webinar and the number of times the teachers admitted they were making racial and cultural identity the primary focus of the classrooms (two were 4th grade and one a high school teacher in austin, TX) was flooring.
Apparently there was also a mandatory laying out of FACTS about January 6 so that "students could process their fears". Students had a choice to discuss those fears and reactions or journal about it.

Put on your smiley face and HOPE like crazy, girl!
I'm pulling for you!

fdcol...you should know by now you will have to work hard to out pessimist me.
"Like Germany, Japan, Russia, and other countries that are still here after their dark years, I believe America will ultimately survive."
1. There are areas on the globe that bear those names, but I am not sure what remains of what they were.
2. But even if vestiges of them do remain, I would say the their declines and especially their subsequent renewals happened when the US was a Constitution Based Super Power that nurtured the garden so they could re-emerge.
The garden in which we will try to grow anew has no benevolent farmer protecting us. That garden is watched over by hungry crows who want to eat anything that pops up from the dirt.

Didn't that happen months and months ago?
Maybe the point is that nothing has changed regarding HCQ policies in the intervening months. Other than Dr Simone Gold getting arrested in the Capitol on 1/6 for exercising her free speech rights, not to mention getting canceled on various social media for her heresies.

Abortion is the Antichrist's demonic parody of the Eucharist. That's why it uses the same holy words, "This is my body," with the blasphemously opposite meaning.

I don't know if the press doesn't understand the difference between the Pipeliner's Union and the United Association of Pipe Fitters and Plumbers (i.e. the UA) but there are differences. The UA probably claims jurisdiction on the pump and control stations but wrapping, welding and trenching the pipe is with the Pipeliners.
Anyway its revealing to me how misinformed the press is in something I know which of course begs the question how misinformed are they on things I don't know as well?

OL,
Your Point 2 is one of those that really prevents me from sharing the optimistic "hope" of Alison and all the other "glass half full" people around here.
We just won't have that same charitable "benefactor".
There are a host of other factors that they conveniently overlook, as well:
1) All of the brainwashing in education and the media that rse informs us of. rse, I appreciate your research more than I can say! It's always on point, and I wish I knew half as much as you do .... but then, I'd probably be even more pessimistic.
1) Demographic changes, from the dying off of the Boomers (who can remember what America was like before Bezmenov's "ideological subversion") and their replacement by the later generations who have largely been brainwashed, indoctrinated, mal-educated, misinformed, and taught to hate their own country.
2) The continued leftward pull of the culture from Leftists' near-monopoly of ALL the institutions that inform, shape, create and perpetuate "conventional wisdom" and "public opinion" - the MSM, academia, Hollywood / entertainment / sports industries, government bureaucracy, and unions. They have so infiltrated and control EVERYTHING, including Big Tech ..... it will be harder and harder for conservatives and patriotic Americans to challenge the Left's perspectives and propaganda.
3) The continued influx of non-assimilating illegal aliens who will do the same thing that liberal Yankees do when they move South ..... they'll vote for the same Leftist policies that created the Hells they flee from.
4) Even institutions like the Courts, the military and law enforcement ... who have traditionally been bastions of conservatism and American sovereignty ... are now so politicized and dominated by Leftist thought as to be hostile to our cause.
5) Neither the Dems or the GOPe arms of the UniParty will do anything meaningful to fix electoral fraud or corruption because they BOTH are complicit in it and benefit from it. Yeah, that's a MAJOR "challenge".
6) Yata-yata-yata.

Cant let states make up their own minds... nope. Gotta issue an edict for top down control.
