Spent the week reading Victorian fairy tales. Most interesting, the theory that the devil's "teing" or tithe makes fairies give the devil one of their own or a human every seven years. A very nasty idea probably promulgated by the Puritans wanting to tarnish fairies. Plus the story by Frances Hodgson Burnett (of Secret Garden fame) about a girl who goes behind a brick in the chimney to meet, among others, her baby sister who is full of complaints about diaper pins. Not sure I'd recommend it--in fact, not! But it's fun to read about a six-month-old sourpuss.
When my sister and I were watching the "Great British Baking Show" (I think that's the name) I was surprised that in the final contest, the contestants were required to bake and decorate a birthday cake they had dreamed of in childhood and several based theirs on versions of fairies, fairy gardens, etc.
I don't think that would happen here. My only memories of fairies in children's literature are Tinkerbell from Peter Pan and "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" from the Nutcracker Suite. That sort of underscores your explanation of the Puritan influence here.
I hope the furnace holds up as well. My space heater in my bedroom/office does pretty well. The dogs are already in here, (I think they are afraid they will be asked to go outside again.)
What threads tie a multicultural society together? How are those threads validated? Who gets to decide what should be equal and how shall it be measured?
The difference between ideology and truth is that ideology never seeks to find reality and certainly can’t ask what is good because for them morality is relative.
The progressive ideology seeks progress to an unreachable end — progress, enforced through increasingly severe control, successively eating its own tail, increasingly centralized, brittle, and inflexible.
With no place for individuality, such a society kills its reason to exist. How sardonic that they justify attacks on individuals to rationalize further attacks on institutions crafted to protect the individuals they devour.
sbw, these full commies have NO HONEST and no MORALITY. Your description of IDEOLOGUES is spot on. Of course, the FULL COMMIES tell us we are WHITE SUPREMACISTS and WE are IDEOLOGUES.

It doesn't say that, though. The person can be convicted, and then there's a separate decision on whether to ban him from holding office. Hastings was convicted but not banned. Presumably because he's a Democrat.
Hastings filed suit in federal court claiming that his impeachment trial was invalid because he was tried by a Senate committee, not in front of the full Senate, and that he had been acquitted in a criminal trial. Judge Stanley Sporkin ruled in favor of Hastings, remanding the case to the Senate, but stayed his ruling pending the outcome of an appeal to the Supreme Court in a similar case regarding Judge Walter Nixon, who had also been impeached and removed.[8]

Conrad Black can be hopeful about this new administration, but I am not.
The Democrats and Uniparty creeps are inherently convinced of their own cleverness and disdainful of the Chinese as a threat; they are also easily lured by greed and a lust for power. I am certain that the Chinese are using all sorts of plots from financial to cultural, to gradually demonstrate their strength and superiority to the rest of the world.
Meanwhile, I just saw an article on The Hill that they are taking THERAPY DOGS to the National Guardsmen in DC. While that is all well and good, it does not demonstrate military strength for the international community and those Guardsmen would probably do better at home, rather than guarding a bunch of commies and crooks in DC.

sbw, I'd fly to Milan and go op to Lake Como. Rent a car and go visit the wonderful cities nearby--Sienna, Perugia, Bologna.The roads are good and the trips not very lengthy and those are the loveliest cities to see.Or, if you don't car to drive, there are trains, buses and ride shares between these cities.

That's cheating, Clarice, that wasn't one of the choices. But if you're up north Verona is also very nice. That's near Lake Garda.

Kamala Harris TV appearance in West Virginia surprises Manchin: 'That's not working together'
The vice president used local TV appearances this week to tout the Biden administration's nearly $2 trillion "American Rescue Plan"

--President Biden
@POTUS
$600 is simply not enough when you have to choose between paying your rent and putting food on the table. That’s why my American Rescue Plan finishes the job of getting $2,000 to folks who need it most.--
Ok, that's January. So we're doing $2k per month? I prefer Yang.

The answer is to reduce the soy fed to our youth. Not to bring in a bunch of illiterate gangsters seeking the dole.
@cnbc
The United states is running out of people. It is facing an aging population, falling birth rate and economic recession caused by the coronavirus pandemic. These issues will have huge implications on the size of the workforce and the consumer base. cnb.cx/396m7OL

I haven't got my $600 yet.

I’m on the “no fed funds for you” list. Was the last time, too.
Posted by: henry | January 30, 2021 at 10:18 PM
Yup. I'm cheating , Jimmyk, I've spent a lot of time in Italy, and if you're traveling I think these places are the most interesting sites, and the food in Bologna the best in Italy.

Henry. Of course, the only answer is to import millions more people. You only need to read the Australian experience [See below] - where, because of exporting jobs to places like China, there were no more real jobs, the migrants mostly ended up on the dole.
My earlier Post: For those of you who like Australia, Instapundit links to a sobering article {I saw the start of this in the late 80s, but I didn't know about offshoring warship production]:
"THIS IS WHAT THE LEFT ENVISIONS FOR US: Every nation should learn Australia’s lessons."

Harumph! I think I had better get to bed before I work myself up.
