Snow started here a little over an hour ago. Fine snow, falling rapidly, no wind. Ground already covered.

Reminiscent of 1978.

From the last thread:This is a good explanation of why we should try to instill a love of country in the younger generation.

Why one of SloJoe's first acts was to dismantle the 1776 Commission, which was created by Trump in response to the 1619 nonsense. Can't have that kind of patriotism.

--I know of a number of "reset" buttons, none are pleasant, let alone the one Dear Leader Klaus is selling.--

The one reset which trumps all the others is called 'reality' and it's what all the other resets hope to replace with their own unrealities.
Reality don't play that.
Just ask Weimar, Robespierre, the USSR, Zimbabwe and all the others reset into their graves by the Great Reality Reset.
The modern world with its universal debt jamboree of the last 30 years is on a collision course with reality itself.

Catsmeat

Cheering, MM! The 13 inches we got last week are melting away, though of course with treacherous ice--I hope your heating holds up!

Spent the week reading Victorian fairy tales. Most interesting, the theory that the devil's "teing" or tithe makes fairies give the devil one of their own or a human every seven years. A very nasty idea probably promulgated by the Puritans wanting to tarnish fairies. Plus the story by Frances Hodgson Burnett (of Secret Garden fame) about a girl who goes behind a brick in the chimney to meet, among others, her baby sister who is full of complaints about diaper pins. Not sure I'd recommend it--in fact, not! But it's fun to read about a six-month-old sourpuss.

MissMarple2

Catsmeat,

When my sister and I were watching the "Great British Baking Show" (I think that's the name) I was surprised that in the final contest, the contestants were required to bake and decorate a birthday cake they had dreamed of in childhood and several based theirs on versions of fairies, fairy gardens, etc.

I don't think that would happen here. My only memories of fairies in children's literature are Tinkerbell from Peter Pan and "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" from the Nutcracker Suite. That sort of underscores your explanation of the Puritan influence here.

I hope the furnace holds up as well. My space heater in my bedroom/office does pretty well. The dogs are already in here, (I think they are afraid they will be asked to go outside again.)

Willowed: On reading Markos on Solzhenitsyn:

What threads tie a multicultural society together? How are those threads validated? Who gets to decide what should be equal and how shall it be measured?

The difference between ideology and truth is that ideology never seeks to find reality and certainly can’t ask what is good because for them morality is relative.

The progressive ideology seeks progress to an unreachable end — progress, enforced through increasingly severe control, successively eating its own tail, increasingly centralized, brittle, and inflexible.

With no place for individuality, such a society kills its reason to exist. How sardonic that they justify attacks on individuals to rationalize further attacks on institutions crafted to protect the individuals they devour.

GUS

sbw, these full commies have NO HONEST and no MORALITY. Your description of IDEOLOGUES is spot on. Of course, the FULL COMMIES tell us we are WHITE SUPREMACISTS and WE are IDEOLOGUES.

On a related matter, I don't remember his name, but many years ago an African American Judge was impeached and found guilty. I don't know whether he went to jail, but he went out and got himself elected to Congress. For all I know, he is still a member of the House. jimmyk

If the Constitution says one of the penalties for being impeached and found guilty is being banned from holding office, how was this guy able to get elected to Congress?

It doesn't say that, though. The person can be convicted, and then there's a separate decision on whether to ban him from holding office. Hastings was convicted but not banned. Presumably because he's a Democrat.

Davod

Narciso. Might have been a case of Republican Hose and Democratic Senate.

Davod

House not Hose.

Narciso

Neither

Hastings filed suit in federal court claiming that his impeachment trial was invalid because he was tried by a Senate committee, not in front of the full Senate, and that he had been acquitted in a criminal trial. Judge Stanley Sporkin ruled in favor of Hastings, remanding the case to the Senate, but stayed his ruling pending the outcome of an appeal to the Supreme Court in a similar case regarding Judge Walter Nixon, who had also been impeached and removed.[8]

Sporkin was the company counsel that enabled the sham conviction of edwin wilson a few years earlier.

jimmyk

Bologna, Florence, Tuscany, and Rome?

Florence is part of Tuscany, or course. I would probably choose Tuscany, including Florence, Siena, and the countryside.

Conrad Black can be hopeful about this new administration, but I am not.

The Democrats and Uniparty creeps are inherently convinced of their own cleverness and disdainful of the Chinese as a threat; they are also easily lured by greed and a lust for power. I am certain that the Chinese are using all sorts of plots from financial to cultural, to gradually demonstrate their strength and superiority to the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, I just saw an article on The Hill that they are taking THERAPY DOGS to the National Guardsmen in DC. While that is all well and good, it does not demonstrate military strength for the international community and those Guardsmen would probably do better at home, rather than guarding a bunch of commies and crooks in DC.
