OK, so I had to turn the AC on today. amazing after our big freeze. The most fun I had with a car, and the most trouble was my 1972 MG Midget. I was stopped twice by the Houston police, not for any violation, they just wanted a closer look. I don't think many Texas police had ever seen such a small car. It was really fun when I'd visit my folks in Austin and got to take it out on the hill country roads. Finally got rid of it when a city bus ,not seeing me, moved over into my lane forcing me off the road. Amazingly, I had one accident with it resulting in a bent front fender on my car and no front end on the Taurus that hit me. Something to say about heavy gauge steel. LOL

Remember back when it was titanic news when we sold the Russkies a little bit of wheat?
Now we give our present commie tyrants half of our economy and the question is whether to give them the rest or keep just a bit for the peons.

NY COVID vaccine rollout so bad people are finding appointments for strangers

"But I can’t talk about anything else, not in New York, whose system is so labyrinthian it’s forced people to compete for appointments like it’s “The Hunger Games,” or to simply give up in frustration. There’s the state Web site, the city Web site, separate applications for Rite Aid, CVS and Walgreens, not to mention hospitals, smaller pharmacies and mysterious sites that seem to drop hundreds of doses in the middle of the night."

I didn't realize last night that there already are some savvy amateurs functioning like a Hotels.com site wading through the web to set up appointments for people free of charge.

Mom, rse, I'd love to see you this summer but family decisions, not my own, intervene--when I usually come, my parents (who will then be 90 and 87) will be on a norweigian cruise. Their memories aren't that great, but this is a very upscale line and they will be watched after--and they don't intend to get off the thing, just watch from the shore! My mom is still irrationally annoyed at the "butler" she had on the last cruise whose English wasn't perfect and thus didn't bring her promptly "dental floss"! My sister and I heard about this lapse for months after the cruise's end. There is definitely a category in this world called "very picky and ignorant old ladies"--I feel for the stewards! At any rate, both my parents forgot when I usually come in their fervid desire to get on a cruise (they are both vaccinated now) and so I will go down for his 90th on June 19th and stay a bit and that will do--but I'll be flying, not driving (sorry, Pin, too!).

I just happened to be driving behind a corporate hotel in my relatively small home town and noticed it had eight electric car charging stations.

Is this a new trend or is it just our proximity to Nashville?

I have a distinct memory from a Robert Aspirin novel. A rich kid in a long ago far away star system has to go lead paramilitary forces. His name is Phule. It’s called ‘Phule’s Company’.

Anyway, he’s rich so he has a butler. The butler says approximately,”I have been buttling for him for 20 years.” It would tend to suggest that one drops the “er”. I’m no expert, just a happy amateur who loves Unnecessary Capitalization.

“Listen, and understand. That algorithm is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are suspended.”

“Buttling” is indeed a verb. And a career, if so inclined.

(Listening to Tower of Power 50th Anniversary concert, still awesome.)

I'm still puzzling over the vaccine distribution system.

"The administration says “very, very few” vaccine doses were distributed through the direct-to-pharmacy program last week."

I'm convinced that the mostly PR stunt to appear to widen the distribution of the vaccine is causing problems with the distribution. I suspect the Xiden* people heard something from the manufacturers that made them believe they would have enough new vaccines to build another pipeline that bypassed the governors.

"My pal Jim Geraghty wrote about this issue from a different angle. Vaccines are getting distributed to the states, according to the data, regardless of weather issues. "

I don't have that data. I can understand how vaccines might still be delivered pretty well on a weekly basis, say, yet if appointments were made based on the shipment arriving on a Monday and it showed up a few days later instead that would void a bunch of existing appointments that would have to be rescheduled and would lock the window for new appointments.

If that is the case I can see where the "apparent" demand for vaccines outpaces the "actual" demand for doses. People will clog all available portals trying to schedule a shot.

I just planted some of these in a seed starter and I’m pretty excited about them, and you could be too:

jim nj

“When you order Pfizer, it is 1,170 doses,” Landers said. “That is the minimum order, so you have to be able to give a lot of vaccine as an entity. Still, this really has to be in places where that much vaccine can be given.

Dr. Landers said the state does not break up any orders, so providers have to be able to manage all 1,170 doses."

The Pfizer vaccine can now be stored for 14 days in a regular vaccine freezer as detailed below:

"Pfizer Inc. submitted data to the FDA to demonstrate that their COVID-19 vaccine remains stable after storage of the undiluted vials for up to two weeks at standard freezer temperature. The alternative temperature for storage of frozen vials is not applicable to the storage of thawed vials before dilution (which can be held in the refrigerator for up to 5 days), or on the storage of thawed vials after dilution (which can be held at refrigerator temperature or room temperature for use within 6 hours)."

I find this interesting for several reasons.

I assume that Pfizer has been studying this for some time and that the FDA has the paperwork to show that, yet does the J&J vaccine approval have anything to do with the timing? Or is it just happenstance?

When I look at those specs for the distribution of the shots into arms I can see why minor hiccups in supply could be magnified.

To thaw, or not to thaw, that is the question. Thaw? Hmm. Dilute? Hmm. Use them or lose them? I can see why people would disrupt the final distribution if they think something, like the local weather, would cause people not to show up on time.

Being able to move frozen vaccines from super-freezers to regular ones for 14 days will make some of those decisions easier.

Maybe he really thinks hes a bond type like in tenet

1,170 Pfizer doses as a unit of shipment had me puzzled as I had seen the Moderna vaccine packaged up as 10 vials to a box.

I wonder if Moderna just dummied up a box for a photo-op.

Because I can't figure out how to box 1,170 doses into equally-sized boxes. Then I wondered why you would even put something that has to be frozen like that into cardboard boxes.

Plunging demand for COVID-19 tests may leave US exposed

Exposed to what? tests people want less than they did before?

"U.S. testing hit a peak on Jan. 15, when the country was averaging more than 2 million tests per day. Since then, the average number of daily tests has fallen more than 28%. The drop mirrors declines across all major virus measures since January, including new cases, hospitalizations and deaths."

It's a miracle. People feel so much safer under Xiden* that they will reduce their demand for testing.

"Over the holiday season, many Americans still had to wait days to receive test results, rendering them largely useless. That’s led to testing fatigue and dwindling interest, said Dr. Michael Mina of Harvard University."

"President Joe Biden has promised to revamp the nation’s testing system by investing billions more in supplies and government coordination. But with demand falling fast, the country may soon have a glut of unused supplies. The U.S. will be able to conduct nearly 1 billion monthly tests by June, according to projections from researchers at Arizona State University. That’s more than 25 times the country’s current rate of about 40 million tests reported per month."

We're going to need to spend Brazilians of dollars more for testing and tracing that nobody wants. Unless we mandate it.

We're going to need Brazilians of dollars in order to fix the vaccine supply problems that don't really exist, but which we have now generated AP articles on.

Oh, and since we need every qualified nurse for vaccination, instead of testing, we need Brazilians more dollars to create more nurses.

By July we will be exporting testing, vaccines and nurses to Europe.

Good morning JOM. Once again, great Pieces Clarice.

I can't decide which would be worse, Garland on the Supreme Court, or Garland as Attorney General. Now that we're all considered domestic terrorists he may be much more dangerous as AG. Meanwhile Antifa and BLM can't be called terrorists because they rioted and killed people at night.

I always thought Hillary's "deplorable" comment was beyond stupid, but in retrospect it appears calculated. It was another step towards "othering" us conservatives, taken when Hillary was certain she would be president.

But the business of attacking conservatives as being threats to America goes back, at least, to when Janet Reno ordered the Branch Davidian kids incinerated. Democrats have been at it a long time.

Frameworks' latest--

As we head into the third month of the year, it’s become clear that 2021 is continuing the precedent set by 2020.

Already in 2021 we have experienced an insurrection, an impeachment, and an inauguration. As Congress and the Biden administration remain locked in negotiations around a stimulus package, we’ve seen devastating winter storms wreaking havoc on Mississippi, Texas, and states throughout the Midwest. There’s a common thread that runs through all of this. And it’s not just crisis. All of these events show the importance of government and its role in serving the public good.

Thats a hole in one of category error.

All of these events show the importance of government and its role in serving the public good.

What a load of codswollop! For gosh sakes, the lure of government subsidies is why Texas had windmills and solar panels which did not work!

Impeachment of a man no longer in office wasted money and time which could have better been spent on getting those checks to people who need them! How much money was wasted on National Guard troops and razor wire fencing around the capitol building? Why do they think Silicon Valley should get millions for a tunnel?

Do not get me started, or I will rant for pages! What a moronic analysis!

Duck Duck go how J&J one works

Mechanism of Action
The goal is to elicit long-term antigen-specific antibody responses by plasma cells and to develop persistent T-cell and B-cell memory of the antigen (ie, humoral and cellular immune response)

Viral vector technology involves the delivery of ≥1 genes that encode a target antigen within an unrelated, engineered virus (eg, adenovirus, measles vaccine [MV])

These types of vaccines are likely to be developed more slowly than nucleic acid (genetic code) vaccines owing to the need for biosafety level 2 (BSL2) laboratories

The concern of possible preexisting immunity in vaccine recipients to viral vectors (eg Ad5, MV) decreasing vaccine effectiveness have been avoided by using low human prevalence adenoviral serotypes (Ad26, Ad35)

Ok, this blood libel of Trump supporters keeps getting spouted even by Trump supporters and it is pissing me off:

In other words the fake insurrection in the Capitol -- an event conducted mainly by Trump supporters in which only Trump supporters died -- is an act of domestic terrorism...
Look, that's not what I saw happen. What I saw happen is that there was a real insurrection where the insurrectionists broke into the Capitol, shut down the scheduled debate, and then forced Congress to "certify" the stolen election. The insurrectionists installed Biden and Harris, who lost the election.

That's hardly "Trump supporters".

This is Steve Sund's resignation letter describing what the insurrectionists were doing at 12:50, while the Trump supporters were on the other side of town.

As soon as this group arrived at our perimeter, they immediately began to fight violently with the officers and to tear apart the steel crowd control barriers, using them to assault the officers. It was immediately clear that their primary goal was to defeat our perimeter as quickly as possible and to get past the police line. This mob was like nothing I have seen in my law enforcement career. The group consisted of thousands of well-coordinated, well-equipped violent criminals. They had weapons, chemical munitions, protective equipment, explosives, and climbing gear. A number of them were wearing radio ear pieces indicating a high level of coordination.

Sure, there were some Trump supporters who had arrived at the Capitol early, but their role in this was as confused human shields.
