--...the character of the president who presided over it so ineptly, often with such indifference it seemed he was rooting for the disease...
...the catastrophe was much bigger and deeper than the denier-in-chief...--

If this horseshit bore some relationship to reality it might succeed as snark. But as it is it's...well, horseshit.
Day after day he was up there with those two clowns they laud talking endlessly about this. Even Newsom and Cuomo had to amit when pressed that Trump gave them everything they asked for and Fauci admitted Trump did what he asked [no matter how stupid it was].
In the remnants of Federalism we have the states and localities are the front line and Trump did what he could according to the powers he has. What is Biden doing differently besides shooting his mouth off?

Of course this meme's real purpose is to turn attention away from the growing realization by the public everything they took from us did nothing but hurt us.
Lockdowns were a colossal retarded mistake that harmed millions and did nothing? Well after all how can we criticize that when nothing anyone did would have made any difference? Who could have known?

"In the U.S., the story of the pandemic year has been dominated by the character of the president who presided over it so ineptly, often with such indifference it seemed he was rooting for the disease."

I guess you have to frame it like that in order to publish in New York Magazine. If not, the author is just displaying his ignorance of how things actually played out. More likely, he needs to believe that Trump was inept to excuse the errors that everybody else made.

Cuomo, Newson, Wolf, Murphy and Whitmer were advised by idiots, unfortunately, so was Trump. And the media backed the idiots over Trump.

If TM had paid attention to the comments here instead of the NY media he would have been better informed all along.

jim nj

Iggy and I seem to be in agreement. I should have refreshed the page and just moved on.

I must have skipped over "denier-in-chief" when I read the quote. That's an infuriating appellation. Indeed, it disqualifies anything that follows.

It is somewhat appropriate though, I've come to associate the word denier with the liars that propose it.

jim nj

Thank you, fre whoever posted this.

https://directorsblog.nih.gov/2020/06/11/searching-for-ways-to-prevent-life-threatening-blood-clots-in-covid-19/#:~:text=Among%20the%20many%20mysteries%20is,even%20in%20younger%20people.

"We’re still trying to understand what promotes the clotting. One clue involves the endothelial cells that form the inner lining of our blood vessels. These cells have on their surface a protein called the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor, and this clue is important for two reasons. One, the virus attaches to the ACE2 receptor, using it as an entry point to infect cells. Two, endothelial-lined blood vessels extend to every organ in the body. Taken together, it seems that some COVID-19 complications relate to the virus attaching to endothelial cells, not only in the lungs, but in the heart and multiple organs."

This explains what I've been trying to puzzle out with my legs. Why did the onset come so quickly? It's like I skipped a step. The progression was all wrong. No leg cramping after a hour's walking. Then after a half hour's walking. Just, boom, one day, shortly after a presumed Covid exposure, ten minutes is too much walking.

I want to talk to my cardiologist about this.

I see that the effort to deflect any sort of blame from Fauci, Brix (who went to work for a Clinton affiliate after her retirement), VP Pence (who was put in charge of coordinating the response, to great acclaim at the time), the hysteria of the news media, the democrats (who used President Trump's travel ban to charge him with racism and xenophobia, remembering Nancy Pelosi's trip to Chinatown)and, dare I say it, the CHINESE (who first denied being the source while sending their citizens to every major western county) has begun.

To ignore the Chinese communist party's effort to spread this virus while taking advantage of western confusion and anti-Trump bigotry, in conjunction with the dems and Never Trump weasels, is despicable. To accuse the President of ignoring it or treating it with indifference is doubly despicable.

I have not yet finished my first cup of coffee, so will withhold further ranting for now.

Such an unserious article doesn’t deserve to be read. It obviously overlooks that Trump faced a second problem as dangerous as the virus.

Trump’s options were limited by Democrats who dearly wanted Republicans to be the ones to destroy checks and balance of federalism.

Trump’s genius was to forge a battle plan that despite political and bureaucratic resistance, proposed temporary protective measures for the most vulnerable, advocated therapeutics, funded warp speed production of a vaccine, worked to restart the economy, and, most deliciously allowed Democrats, RINOs, bureaucrats, corporate social media barons, and media talking heads to individually and collectively step on their own rakes.

Leo Terrell is an ignorant dumb fuck who should bone up on the matter, i dunno, by reading the defining history "Dispossession" by Pete Daniel. Spells out the hard truths about the USDA and White farmers in the 20th century and access to govt subsidies and credit.

Democrats by and large suck in general- no gettin around that. Diz Warren and Gillebrand are in on the bill, along with Spartacooz. Here's their play: this bill will fail to address the legitimate needs of underserved Black farmers while leaving a back door open for White women farmers to increase their access to federal * land grants* while over appropriating funding for local ag bureaucracies and red tape.

This is the same tune that played out as Washington appropriated millions in CRA 64 funds for agriculture and community development which got laundered throughout the country at the local level through Cracker bureaucracies and into White pockets.

The conversion of basis price calculations to income tax has zero to do with historic inequities in financing Black farmers.

Income tax is unconstitutional period.

Now that Biden is set to run the table in the name of Big Ag, he'll finish the job of eliminating small operators using the basis ploy. A 500 acre farm in Iowa being passed on to inheritors ( valued at $5000 per acre-- good black dirt corn ground) will carry with it an income tax bill of about $792K. Who will pay that and seriously believe they can stay in business- credit or no credit?

It stinks.

But so does nullification of civil rights law through bureacratic malpractice, courtesy of the USDA- the net effect which wiped out Black farmers in the southeast after WWII.

Neither Kudlow nor Leo GET that...like most Americans who are influenced by the US' "Creation Story." If Kud n'Leo did GET IT they'd sing a different tune re unconstitutionality in the name of the ludicrous concept of " reverse discrimination" against White people.

I just got off a webinar where the joyful presenter said that the bill signed last week took ideas that were fringe and on the pages of jacobin magazine 10 years ago and is now implementing them to create a new paradigm for the economy.

Webinar was actually last week, but went to beach to get my vitamin D more directly than what was available in ATL.

Webinar also mentioned a shift to a caring economy where healthcare workers and long term care workers will be much better paid. Now with deductibles already sky high and most people having trouble swinging what long term care, especially memory care already costs per month, who pays?

There actually are economic costs as yet unappreciated to all these social justice visions.

MM, gardening leave is part of the regulations of layoffs in the UK. Well, they call layoffs "redundancy" or "made redundant."

If your firm lays you off, they have to give you a few months of leave. You are still an employee and get paid, but you stay home and are not allowed to start another job until the official termination. People call it gardening leave because they are at home taking care of the yard (which they call garden). A good friend went through this a couple years ago, and he rather enjoyed it. This was “fixed” by the Pigford money spigot. To the extent that cash went to the wrong people (all of it?), it suggests the answer is getting rid of USDA instead of funneling moar cash through that misallocation machine. ( much like getting rid of BIA would help the tribes). In each case the funds mostly feed favored politicians and NGOs. Nice design.

The “original basis” change wipes out the middle class small business, not only farmers. Also by design.

Addressing past racism screws everyone and never makes the victims whole (assuming they are still alive). It all boils down to government fleecing of all the people, with a rainbow on top to fool the rubes.
