Hi

BuffyUK

Michael Yon is posting a lot about the serious border problem heading to Texas. He thinks 2 million this year and up to 3 million next year.

MissMarple2

Hi, BuffyUK!

Yon reported live from Panama on Bannon's War Room show yesterday or Thursday (can't remember which) and said we had Border Patrol down there trying to screen for terrorists and other bad guys.

This will be a horrendous mess because it's not like these folks will be hanging around in Texas and the other border states. They will scatter all over the country.

BuffyUK

The reason anyone discusses Harry and Megan is due to Netflix and spotify working with Oprah to market them. She had 9 million and reportedly 6 hours of on film interviewing and what's come out is dull, duller, dulles (to quote Winston Churchill).

I wonder why nothing has been said about the Rose Hanbury rumours (she and William allegedly had a thing possibly when Kate was pregnant with child number 3). I heard that got out because Megan passed it on. The thing is, Harry allegedly is sexually incontinent, so when lockdown ends, Megan will be in the same boat.

I distract myself from the really quite awful news with soap opera rubbish like this.

BuffyUK

Miss M, I am a patreon of Michael Yon and he sends two or three emails a day. He says Border patrol is down there trying to figure things out, given that Joe Biden has thrown down the welcome mat.

He also says some kind of American public response is inevitable, from April, definitely by June.

My meditation teacher sent us all an Indian astrologer's take on the next year which says American is going to be in turmoil.

MissMarple2

BuffyUK,

It wouldn't take rocket science for that astrologer to predict that!

I live i central Indiana, and we have seen the city's murder rate increase dramatically. It's mostly gang violence or domestic disputes which got out of hand. Our stupid democrat mayor (formerly Al Gore's campaign manager and good for nothing but photo-ops) has done nothing to address it. I surmise from the large increase in Hispanic groceries, restaurants and taco trucks that we will be seeing an influx of cartel employees and MS-13 gang members, which is not conducive to peace and quiet.

MissMarple2

The general population is getting the message. Video at the link, a little under one minute. (Alas, while the guy who made this did a great job of representing the issues, he misspelled "peasant".)

Re: Tytler

Iggy, any misquotes are on Cox, not Tytler.

Tytler studied various societies back to Socrates, but you are right that until the American Experiment, no other had tried precisely our formulation of rights, checks and balances. So you might hold out for some "secret sauce" though it is difficult not to see data points in the US along the path he described. However this goes or ends, we are near that point.

Narc, the end of your quote was "...for "While man is being instigated by the love of power—a passion visible in an infant, and common to us even with the inferior animals—he will seek personal superiority in preference to every matter of a general concern".

And that is precisely the point. Humanity is a Bell Curve that shifts over time. But at the far end there is ALWAYS a group that will seek to control "by personal superiority" the rest of the Bell Curve. There are ALWAYS kings, dictators, chiefs, commissars, Popes, generals, capos, dons and so on. The weaker the population, the more people will boss them around. And they will ALWAYS have princes, dukes, SS Officers, other toadies and now, KARENS, to do their bidding for them. That is the human condition, always has been, always will be.

CCGirl, the words "Bondage" and "Serfdom" are two sides of the same coin and they too change over the centuries and in country by country. But in whatever flavor of the day, it is always a measure of how much freedom and liberty is afforded an individual vs whomever bosses him around, and what that boss can do to the individual to force compliance.

I think you were referring to a comment I made a few weeks ago about how much we are already "serfs" since our Masters (Fed, State & Local Governments) demand of our productivity and wealth (approaching half of our combined productivity and half of what is left when we die, and there at present is no private property immune to being taken away by the State, and under Covid, no private contract between "free men" that cannot be abrogated by decree from the state...ALL under penalty of prison.) My comment was that THAT amount of paying unto Caesar, depending on the country and the century, is in the same ballpark of what Feudal Lords and Kings were able to demand from their "Serfs", not to mention their "Slaves" who were the next rung down on the ladder.

Narciso

That was an actual not apocryphal quote i could find, in the Unlearning period that followed the Depression those were the lessons we learned.

My curiosity about the press's behavior leads me to be concerned about how many are getting stipends from the CCP or affiliated NGO's.

henry

Miss M, all of them... plus the media corporations.

Manuel Transmission

OK, now I have a mystery to solve and OL may be the best to offer an answer.

We have gone down to one of the largest malls in the Seattle area for years. It’s in a suburban area between Seattle and Everett near Paine Field home of the big Boeing plant where we keep our 4-Trotter. Like most malls, the parking density fluctuates seasonally with the Thanksgiving/Christmas time you can hardly find a parking spot. Off season weekdays it might be 1/3-1/2 full. Foot traffic inside matches the parking situation.

So yesterday we drop in for lunch at our fave PF Chang’s which is back open inside at reduced capacity. (No waiting at 12:30.) The parking lots are jammed, which seemed strange, but the mall is essentially empty! As you would expect these days a significant number of shops are boarded up and the rest have a handful of customers meandering around and fewer clerks standing around.

Who’s parking their cars there? There’s heavy construction across a four lane street with chain link blocking both sides, but these aren’t worker’s trucks. It’s certainly not overflow dealer cars.

Any theories?

MissMarple2

Manuel Transmission,

Here's a theory which concerns me:

What if they looked at those shoes (assuming that the alleged pipe bomber was actually intending to make a statement with the bombs) and because that shoe is so distinctive, they scanned on line orders looking for someone who ordered the shoe, was part of a Trump donr list, and was in DC on that day? Easy peasy set-up.

OR, what if the FBI made the bombs but decided that on the off-chance their plot was revealed, they made sure they wouldn't go off so they wouldn't be involved in attempted murder charges? FBI conspirator would be masked, hooded and unidentifiable, except for those pesky shoes. Notice that the FBI calls attention to the shoes, while just a general statement on the clothing. A hired guy from DC (paid in cash) would be told to dress in such a manner as seen in the video, but wasn't warned about identifiable shoes. Or perhaps was GIVEN the shoes by the FBI as a bonus.

MissMarple2

Narciso,

Seems to me there wouldn't have been any need to quarantine nursing hole workers if the Corona virus victims hadn't been sent to the nursing homes to begin with.

I didn't read the entire article because of the paywall, but it sure looks to me like they are trying to deflect blame from Cuomo to nursing homes (who are absolved of liability by an EO that Cuomo signed) and the workers there.

I consider this despicable, and the blame rests squarely on Cuomo.

MissMarple2

Well, I think I figured out the weird parking situation. As living conditions evolve and more and more people are squeezing into smaller and cheaper places and likely crammed with more bodies each, where do you park all those extra cars? No long term parking fees!

My sidekick is down in Santa Cruz helping his mom out (he lived there most of his life until moving up here). Anyway, he is boggled by the density of on street parking all around that area. Same situation.

Pinandpuller

I’m getting kind of tired of all these talking head officers acting like the military is just like Lake Woebegone.

MissMarple2

Manuel Transmission,

We have people double parked on the street into their yards. Our neighborhood is made up of 1950's bungalows with one-car garages. I estimate 1/3 are rentals judging by the changes in cars, school bus stops, etc. My neighbor to the south has rented her garage out to a guy who converted it to living quarters and makes his money selling scrap metal, so he has 2 trucks and a trailer plus her car.

He always keeps things neat, though. He works at sorting and disassembling things during the day and everything is taken away when the trailer is full. Nothing is left lying around.

North of us is a rental with no garage and a one-car wide driveway, so whoever is there always parks one car in the street.

Some of the rentals seem to have a LOT of cars in their front yards next to the street. That may be people who do off-the-books cash repairs, since the cars seem to change.

CCGirl

Cars - So many people are working from home, and many of their family members have left the cities to live in the “country.” Lots of cars not being used as they were in normal times. We have four cars - with two college kids at home. Oldest is threatening to move back in May - so that will make it five.

Almost everyone who had an empty house for the winter (provided it’s winterized) had a relative from Boston or NYC living there last March. Winter rentals used to be easy to find - not anymore. I don’t know anything about Santa Cruz though:-)

MissMarple2

CCGirl,

Good thing my daughter works from home, with gas going up. Her commute would be to the far north side, about 15 miles one way.

We are always getting calls from people wanting to know if we want to sell the house for cash.

Since we are near a small university, I figure a lot of them are wanting to own rental property. A lot of the calls come on my line, so I just put on my pathetic grandma voice and say "My daughter owns the house." (She does.)

That way, they will leave me alone.
