--I really dislike saying "tu quoque" or the modern word "projection". Anytime I read you -- it's what I sense you are doing. The things you claim about me, I feel very much I could claim about you. --

Indeed you could but you would be wrong. One of us has to be. In your opinion I am and in my opinion you are. Fortunately there is objective fact to determine who is correct. Unfortunately, you the irrational have discarded objective historical fact and truth for the irrational herd mentality of todays weltanschauung.
You, a person who a short time ago believed almost nothing the current culture is promoting, have thrown your lot in with people who deride America as irredeemably racist and evil, who openly now espouse Marxist concepts and support ever weirder perversions as normal, promote abortion without limit, the disarming of America, literally no border control and the reward of citizenship to literally anyone who makes it across the border by hook or by crook, who want to defund or shrivel the police and let criminals, including violent ones out without bail, who intend to entirely take over the economy through environmental regulations, who seek to cancel and silence anyone they disagree with and who, by any objective standard are trying to establish a country that would be entirely unrecognizable to not only the Founders, but to our parents and to pretty much anyone over fifty. The vast majority of the agenda of the Dems is now incompatible with the Constitution as it was understood for the first 150 to 200 years of our existence, but because you swim in the sea of that popular culture now dominated by cultural, Marcusian Marxists you see through the fish-eye lens of the crowd.

--I expect God will have to sort it all out in the end.--

No. We will. God sorts out the causalities.

-- Because there's no reaching across that gap, as much as I would like to do so.--

Concur. You are the rich man in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The only difference is you still have time to get to the right side of the unbridgeable gulf, but the saps who think Joe Biden has clothes on don't listen to those who see the left as it is.
The really irritating conceit is you know a lot of what I say is true but you think your fastidious determination not to support the tyrants if they go too far will in any way prevent them from going too far. There comes a time [1776, 1860, 1941, 20??] when being a fastidious moderate is no longer tenable. That time comes when you who subscribe to zeitgeist-lite declare you are interested in assisting the tyrants just so far and no farther but you're not interested in war; but war replies that it is interested in you.
Once it does your only choice is what side you're on because the spongy moderate ground has been turned into no-man's land by the would-be tyrants.
I hope you choose wisely but am not sanguine about the odds.

OL:

I remember something about the Constitution not being a suicide pact. Back in the good old days, the government had no problem putting Typhoid Mary in quarantine, because she was literally killing people by insisting on working in food service.

Dave:

I have a fundamental disagreement with everyone here (except maybe Maguire himself) about Trump's instincts and intentions. I won't convince anyone here that I'm right and you guys are wrong. Nor will you convince me. Best we don't get angry about it.

henry

TheVA Governor should submit his old mask... fully covers the head. A sure winner.

henry

Appalled, putting a known disease vector in quarantine is a different banana from putting the entire healthy population in quarantine.

Old Lurker

Appalled "I remember something about the Constitution not being a suicide pact."

Any document that allows the government to do anything and everything it desires whenever it conjures up some need without any check or balance IS a suicide pact.

Nature would let the strongest do whatever they want, the weak be damned. THAT would be preferable in the long run to allowing any government to do to our people what these governments did to us in 2020.

In other words, the Rule of the Jungle is better for the species than Mob Rule by the least able among us will prove to be.

Want a happy medium? Sure. We call it the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

--Lockdowns fall within that. I think this is better handled at a local level than a national edict or even a state edict. In your case, a Wisconsin edict seems a bad idea, but a Milwaukee one a good idea.

Here in Georgia, the state tried to order the local governments not to have mask requirements. This was frankly nuts, and eventually fell apart.--

A perfect example of how you and those swimming in the sea of today's irrational, conformist, proto-Marxist culture either can't or are no longer interested in reason.
As this has gone on the evidence that lockdowns do enormous damage regarding the economy, mental health, political liberty, personal relations and more while doing apparently zero good has become undeniable. In state after state and country after country there has been no demonstrable correlation between lockdowns and the results. And how could they? A viral pandemic is astonishingly complex and variable as are conditions in every country and as is the virus's ability to linger and spread, so the idea simply locking everyone in their basement for a week, a month or a year will have any appreciable effect on the virus's eventual progress is idiotic.
On masks, the Danes completed a double blind study indicating no statistical significance between wearing a mask and not. The CDC itself published a study in February stating that masks made no difference for those under 18 and over 65 and only reduced hospitalizations by 5% in the middle group. That study was of a short duration follow-up, so the likelihood is that in the long term, even that 5% shrinks to zero as the virus "circles back".
Being politicized "scientists" they almost immediately suggested in a new study that did not measure any real world results that two masks was the real answer because of course they did have to counteract the previous study that found masks as worn to be essentially useless.
Just as in climate change a few useful and interesting facts are blended with a high volume of politics, hand waving and terror to produce catastrophic projections and "solutions" which never solve anything but do always and everywhere curb our freedoms and expand the power of the state.
And people like you ignore the politicization the left hand is doing while the right hand holds the shiny orb of "comply or catastrophe" and then have the gall to sniff at people looking at both hands as backwards ignoramuses and mindless automatons.
It wouldn't matter so much were the lessons taught by your folly not going to engulf all of us and our descendants.
So, if you don't want to be called names quit being such a dumbass.

Appalled

1. Keystone -- not happy with shutdown

2. Wall -- The Biden administration tangles up its coronavirus response with immigration. But once we are done with this virus, yes, open things up. This is a big country that does not have big families anymore. The only way to sustain what we have is to let folks in. I really think, though, that the law needs to match enforcement -- something that has not happened in my lifetime.

3. Coronavirus. I think Biden has done pretty well. The new stimulus is too big. The issue is not as politicized as it used to be -- which I give Biden credit for.

4. Foreign Policy -- Too soon to tell. Trump liked him some Putin far too much, but otherwise had pretty good instincts. His middle east policy, in particular.

5. Politics in General -- Trump emphasized conflict in a way that overheated everything (including woke stupidity, Antifa, and the 1-6 insurrection). Biden, by beig so bleeping boring, is calming that down.

MissMarple2

Appalled,

Since your fastidiousness over Trump's horrible intentions and behavior prevent you from offering him a modicum of support, perhaps you could inform me what your objections are? The tax cuts? The increased employment in the trades and among minorities? Peace in the Middle East? Several Nobel Peace Prize nominations from other countries?

None of the objections from the people who belonged to the Lincoln Project turned out to be true, plus they were FAR more morally reprehensible than President Trump. I am tired of fancy talk and virtue signalling by people who want no more than money and power. (The exception being those who are being blackmailed by the Chinese into committing treason, of which I can name several whom I suspect.)

So, once again, what IS it that makes Trump so objectionable to you? You never seem to answer that question.

Narciso

He was as surprised about any of this, we were crystal clear the way they were planning to put the boot to our trachea, but it has a shiny finish.

MissMarple2

BORING??? You think BORING is an admirable trait and that Biden being BORING has calmed down Antifa? Are you aware that Antifa is STILL rioting in Portland?

As far as 1/6, I am of the opinion that Trump had nothing to do with it other than gathering a big crowd, none of whom had the intention to do anything except hear him speak and show support.

If you think woke stupidity is calming down, take a look at the loss of the MLB All-Stars game in Atlanta. It's thriving and growing in perceived power because of people like you, who do not see that the conflict is already here and has been for years.

Trump confronted these people because he knew that continuing down the road so many dems and acquiescent Republicans were headed would lead us to being a vassal state of the Communist Chinese.

The younger generation doesn't want pecksniffian types like George Will or Mitt Romney.

They want action and improvement, and a leader who will fight for them and defend them from overseas threats, not one who would open the gates to every unvetted health and security risk on our southern border.

They do not want boring, I can guaran-damn-tee you that!

Narciso

Abbott attached a letter he addressed to Neil Leibman, president of operations and chief operating officer for the Texas Rangers.

Most “masks” filter 3 microns and up. N95s filter ~0.5 microns and up. Aerosolized viruses are 0.0125 microns and smaller.

Cloth masks are ~30-120 microns. Wool gets you into fractions of an inch.

So masks do what again? Other than strip the self from your face?

Narciso

Davod

MissMarple2

Melinda,

I have read that due to people breathing out through the mask, bacteria grow on them, hence the increase in bacterial pneumonia.

Appalled,

I am pretty sure my daughter and I had the Corona flu back in late February/early March. She was very sick, having been asthmatic as a child. I was also ill, but not quite as bad as she was. Sicker than I have been in years, though.

The masks don't do any good. When they were first recommended, the President wore one. Some time in the late spring he got Corona, whether he was wearing one or not. He's quite right; they are useless, and once he and Melania had had the virus, why should he continue to wear one?

I do not wear one except when I have to enter Kroger. I do not wear one when my family gathers, nor do I wear one when I am outside or in the car. I am claustrophobic and they make me hyperventilate, plus exhaling through them causes my glasses to fog up.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--All I can say is Trump disdained wearing masks. He mocked people for wearing them in his presence. A lot of people he worked with (as well as himself, his wife, and child) got COVID. It may be rude to remember that. Oh well...--

Oh brother.
That's not all you can say. That's all you chose to say without disrupting your worldview. It is the answer of someone who just feels he is right.
I provide you with scientific references which indicate wearing masks is ineffectual. And after saying it's too much trouble to look into them you mock Trump for disdaining masks because he got Covid.
What's rude is being intellectually lazy to the point you don't care what the facts are if they conflict with your [provided] narrative.
Would it be rude of me to point out that in a nation with a mask compliance rate that rivals or surpasses most Euro countries, the vast, vast majority of people who got Covid were quite religious in their mask wearing?
And by religious I mean they did so as ritualistic adherents in a blind faith to a dogma passed down from the elevated pulpits of the high political priests of our cloistered public health monasteries of apparent superstition, since their science seems about as well grounded as witch doctors casting chicken bones in the dirt.
Wear a mask. Don't wear a mask. Wear a mask. Wait, now we've got studies demonstrating masks do little to nothing...wear two masks!
We live in a culture where the formal institutions are utterly dominated by leftists who always and everywhere use lies and misrepresentations to accrete power. No thinking person would base their worldview or political choices on the known factories of lies and deceptions those institutions churn out. Even if one were to believe Trump was the most dishonest individual extent, the utter and proven falsehoods produced repeatedly by the organs of the left remain, not to mention the hate, divisiveness and destruction they are already leaving in their wake. [Of course a thinking person might wonder if his reliance on liars might have miscolored his view of the Orange Ogre]. But you seem uninterested when presented with contrary facts and uninterested in exploring them.
Consequently, I give up.

When public health gets it wrong repeatedly and the lead public health official lies repeatedly and then smirks, we have a credibility problem.

When hydroxywhatever is denounced and then the denouncement is retracted, that is a problem.

When we are told kids have an infinitesimal chance of getting the virus and the schools stay closed for a year, that is a problem.

When we were told that it would take 2 weeks to flatten the curve, and it's with us a year later, that is a problem.

When we were told the virus came from Wuhan and the media and public health officials tried to cover it up, that is a problem.

Credibility is everything in a crisis, and the collective leadership failed completely.

This parish priest is/was dear to me. Several years ago, Cardinal Dolan came to my parish in OCONOMOWOC WI. Cardinal Dolan's brother is a member of the parish. His brother ironically, much like Tim Dolan, was transferred to Milwaukee for his career. He was on TV and Radio for years.
Anywho, Cardinal Dolan knows me, and at his NIECES wedding at ST JEROME, he and I chatted in the NARTHEX. Our Narthex on the EAST entrance.
He said hello to me and hugged. He then asked me.

"Has Yockey paid off this barn yet?" I said "YES".
We have a wealthy parish. Our church is 12 or so years old now. Our old church was far far far too small. We moved our stained glass and gorgeous religious montages to the new church.
Timothy Cardinal Dolan, is both a man of GOD, and a shrewd business/political MAN.
""Jorge Mario Bergoglio" is neither. And he's nearly 85 years old. I do not hate him. I honestly am disgusted at his lack of humility and his hubris. I wish him no ill will, and my wife, son and I, do pray for his enlightenment.

Hi all,

Lost my internet connection yesterday so still catching up.

My library called and said I could have a hotspot that I asked for last March. Took the bus down and got it.

I was able to download Firefox to the replacement laptop I bought. The download kept failing before due to bandwidth and intermittent connectivity issues.

So I'm surfing with really good bandwidth for a change on two computers. So I want Firefox to act the same way on both PCs. So I use their SYNC feature.

Yeah, that doesn't do want it sounds like. I'm thinking the thing will upload one user criteria and download it to the other.

Wrong. It just lets you see the latest stuff you've done on one computer on the other computer.

Apparently you have to copy your "portfolio" to a USB stick and manually move it. I've given up on that for the night after several aborted attempts.

I'll try again tomorrow.

So I've got the old computer downloading 45,118 "portfolio" items to a USB stick and surfing on the replacement PC without "Killfile" and the rest of my usual settings and AdBlocker.

I'm appalled at APPALLED. I think he's the only one I still have killfiled. Now I remember why.

I'm not sure what was more annoying tonight - the repeated failures in copying the "portfolio" on one PC or the sophistry of Appalled on the other.

Oddly, the problem in both cases is similar. On one PC I'm getting error messages that a file is missing or in use and can't be moved to the USB stick - in the other I'm reading what appears to be corrupt memory.

I appreciate all the efforts to re-boot, repair or attempt to overwrite Appalled's flawed memory, but you're not having any more luck than I am trying to clone a Firefox.

And in another oddity, Firefox has utilities built-in that would allow me to easily convert all the stuff I want to do if I had just been using another browser on the same newer computer that I now wanted to abandon.
