TM:

Could it be that RINOs like you and Independents like me have given up on the Republican Party? Or is somebody messing around with the polling results? We may never know, because the new article of faith is that any loss is fraud and fake news.

Here in Georgia, a lost election by the Democrats is definitely voter suppression, worthy of boycotts. (Yes, I believe the stories that Stacy Abrams was for the boycott before she was against it. She was very late about opposing them, and drew the notice of the establishment press here in Ga.)

If it's the Republicans losing, well we know there must have been nefarious behavior in Fulton County, because who would vote against Trump?

hoyden

Gallup rubs their crystal ball and pulls new poll numbers from their nether region. Imagine that.

Dave (in MA)

Gallup had President Delecto.

James D.

Appalled, with all due respect, you can shove your dishonest, willfully ignorant concern trolling where the sun doesn't shine.

Appalled

James D:

If this were JOM II, you'd have every right to say that and insist on that. Here, you are just a squatter like the rest of us.

And given that, I do have to ask -- what the f*** is your problem? Why is my existence in this blog such a pimple on your ass? For many years, I have been nothing but polite to you -- though I disagree. I think Trump is awful; you think he's wonderful. It can make for interesting conversation. But since you think Trump love or Trump hate a very important personality trait -- we get this.

What so pisses you off that not every voter, not even every white voter likes Trump the way you do? Because make no mistake, you ARE angry.

Is this the psychiatric help thread?

Jim Eagle --

We'll have to see. Fair question, though.

Jim Eagle

10% delta in that poll is from the "free lunch" crowd.

I have tried to go to AOS HQ both in a new tab and directly from JOM but all I get is this:

"404 Site www.ace.mu.nu is not served on this interface"

Any ideas?

James D.

Appalled, you are damn right that i al angry.

I am watching the future of this country be destroyed. I am seeing my personal economic future imperiled by progressive policies, and my family’s security, and my personal safety thanks to the mass violence fomented by progressives. And you pop in here to regurgitate the lies of the WaPo and NYT and to clap like a trained seal for a Biden and his fellows who are doing all this damage.

Of course I’m fucking angry. The damage being done is Incalculable and you refuse to see it, or, worse, approve of it. That makes you utterly contemptible in my eyes.

Narciso

Appalled

James D --

We see things differently. Always will, I think.

I don't know where you live in DC, so I do not know if the BLM protests tore up your neighborhood. In Atlanta, the protestors had the genius idea of tearing up their own part of town, and probably wrecking any further upgrade of the neighborhood for another 10 years. Rioters are rarely our best people. But they have gone away now, and the "Defund the police" idiocy is also mostly on the ash heap of history.

When it comes to lies -- there's an awful lot of that all over the place. (Witness the 60 minutes hit job on DeSantis) But not everything we believe to be a lie is one.

I think the Trump narrative after the election was a huge lie. I think you believe the Biden victory was a huge lie. There's no reconciling the two views. I won't cuss you out, though.

In any event, of all the JOM commenters, you were the one who took action when the host went in a direction you disliked. You get my respect for that, even though if I went over there, my hair would likely spontaneously combust.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--We see things differently. Always will, I think.--

I suspect you'll come around when this particular round of left wing fervor ends the way every one in the past has.
At that point you might finally understand that the "unconditional Trump love" you perceive is in fact the reaction of people more perceptive than you to the currents and destination we are in the grip of and the support of any vessel, even flawed ones, that also recognize where we're headed and do their best to keep us from going there.
The first part of seeking any port in a storm is recognizing you're in a storm in the first place.
You prefer to still consider the golden downpour the left is giving us a gentle summer shower. Someday they'll help you figure out, good and hard.

The current round of left wing fervor was partly amplified by Trump's own fervor. Marxists do enjoy a environment that "heightens the contradictions" of capitalism and Trump and right wing media spent a lot of time kicking around the divisions of US society from 2015 to 2020.

I don't know if it settles down on its own or not. We'll find out once the pandemic is over and people feel its safe to riot again.

Showed up for my Moderna #1 @11 for a 11:25 appt... They ran out before 10:00, so I get to wait for at least an hour once the next batch is here.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

The funny thing about a complacent, placid, bovine thinker like Appalled is if you went back 20 or 25 years when he probably also thought of himself a staid moderate who was neatly treading water between the two extremes, he would have told you a man and a party who think America is irredeemably racist, blacks are owed reparations, men who say they are women should be able to compete with our daughters in sports and then take showers with them afterwards, who think homosexual marriage is a sacrosanct right, who think people who believe in orthodox Christianity are bigoted extremists, who think people with different opinions should be silenced, who think we should let in anyone who wants to cross our borders regardless of their health or intent and make them citizens, who want to defund the police and eliminate not only bail but in large part jail, who think capitalism is evil and socialism preferable, that solicit billionaires and corporations to silence opponents and demand white people to be less white. who think we should spend 2-5 trillion on eco crap and another similar sum on infrastructure which is also eco crap and who think blacks are too stupid to get an ID so we need to mail all ballots to whoever asks for one and then party officials should go harvest them and count them behind closed doors [and much more] are not a person or party he could ever possibly support, but he would laugh in your face at the suggestion the Dem party could ever possibly get to that point and would not even consider it a serious position for anyone to take.
And of you ask him today to imagine where a party that radicalized itself that far that fast in 20 years might be in another 20 he would blink at you in that bovine, unimaginative way and apparently believe it will either be right where it is now or perhaps have pulled back just a bit to his happy medium.

Being a leftist is to be an authoritarian utopian. Being a moderate is to be in denial that there are authoritarian utopians, at least here and in power. They might exist in Havana or North Korea but it can't happen here.
It's easier for a lazy thinker in denial to indulge the conceit someone like Trump, who as I have pointed out many times, pursued policies similar to but a bit to the left of JFK, is some wooly mammoth of fascism trampling America than it is to face the actual Marxism that now infuses the Dems.
These are the people who make cataclysms possible by denying and swimming with the tide of authoritarianism and then demand to know why you didn't do more to stop it after the smoke clears and the rubble finally comes to rest.
The pre cataclysm snootiness, smugness, superiority and conceit is maddening, but if they weren't any of those things they wouldn't be in denial and no one would have to write these long descriptions of what cowardly tools they are.

MissMarple2

Appalled,

I see. It's Trump's fault again!

Exactly what caused those riots in Chicago in 1968? How about the Iranian Revolution? Mao? North Korea's threats?

Donald Trump was a beloved figure in Hollywood for his success with that reality show (which I never watched) and had cameo roles in a couple of movies and was a frequent guest on programs like The Tonight Show and Oprah. Everyone LOVED him until he ran for president, and even then the hysterical reaction didn't start until it looked like he might win, and actually (HORRORS) keep his promises.

Do not bother re-writing history here. I will again say (with pride) that he is the best president in my lifetime, and I was born during the Truman administration.

If you want to console yourself with thinking the likes of Bill Kristol, Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney are the high point of political leadership, go right ahead. I will go with a guy who looks you in the eye, cares about the country more than his individual bank account, stood up to more attacks than I would have dreamed possible, and left a lasting memory with his supporters that the country CAN be led by a decent man who works hard and doesn't want to boss everyone around, down to how many guests are acceptable at Thanksgiving.

I think you had better read the lyrics of the French national anthem, which discusses watering the soil of France with the blood of the aristos. People like you are why the French came to that point.

Dave (in MA)

I got tired of waiting for the state to get me an appointment so I used a Twitter bot to find my own, but the clinic is on a UMASS affiliated college campus, so I still get to blame Charlie Baker. [Just got the jab after I typed that, so now I have to wait 15min to see if I turn into a newt.]

The stronger reactions seem to happen after the 2nd shot, especially the moderna shot.

I am driving red tomorrow for her 2nd. People are shocked I am in no hurry. I said I was collecting information and there is still nowhere to travel and no one wants to take away local mask mandates so I still mostly stay home or outside.

Appalled

Iggy:

You do provide a lot to respond to at times when I don't have the time for it. I can either take umbrage at "bovine" as being an ad hominem and flounce off. I can patiently outline where my brain was at in 2000. (I voted for Bush and thought he was in the right in Florida. Still do.) Or I can challenge whether your list of horribles represents where the Democrats are in 2021.

My first reaction -- please start breaking your graphs -- you are hard to read when you get all run on.

My second reaction -- some of your prejudiced review of my thinking is quite wrong. For example, I supported Gay Marriage for years and infinitely preferred it to the compromise approach of civil unions.

My third reaction -- I really thought we were heading towards an aristocracy situation in 2000 -- where some Bush person would be running against Hillary Clinton for years numbering into infinity. We didn't get that, thank goodness. So my crystal ball stinks.

This is far from answering every point, but its the best I can do now.

Miss M,

Trump was a symptom rather than a cause. Where we are is not all his fault. But dislike of Trump goes back a very long way. Here are examples from pop culture back in the 80s. (When there were newspapers and comic strips).

I was told that there's a reported stronger possible reaction to even the first shot if you've had Covid already. I had something in Feb20 that I can only assume was either the Flu or Covid, but I was never tested. Low fever for a few days, and about a week or two of coughing fits, and I've never heard of this before, but after a coughing fit my old guy eyesight temporarily improved for about a half minute or so.

MissMarple2

Appalled,

I see. You are assuming that Gary Trudeau, husband of Jane Pauley, is a source to demonstrate that everyone back in the 80's hated him.

Written by a guy who writes for the Village Voice?

Okay.

If Trump was so unpopular, why did he last for 13 seasons with The Apprentice? Why were those rallies so packed that people waited in line for days to get in?

I am not backing down on this. You are absolutely not going to convince me. And may I say, your snooty and superior attitude to all of Trump supporters is obnoxious and is not going to gain support for ANY GOPe candidate or a democrat.

GUS

APPALLING is a clown.

And how about this comment.
The gap has been wider in this millennium but this time does seem different, since the Republican Party is so clearly divided and adrift.

Maguire will learn when he is purged elsewhere.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--“Most people don’t realize: the only industry in America...that can’t be sued...are gun manufacturers.”--

Biden gives Clinton a run for his money on the dishonesty scale.

Gun manufacturers can be sued for all of the things any other industry can be sued for, including criminal and civil liabilities.
What the progs want to do is make the gun industry the only industry in America that can be sued and found liable for making a perfectly legal, non-defective product that is used in the commission of a crime.
The analogous situation would be making Ford liable for some islamist using an F150 to mow down a bunch of pedestrians or Quaker Oats if someone drops a 10 pound sack of oats off a lighthouse on to some poor saps head.

matt - deplore me if you must

We live in the Age of the Big Lie.

We are told that America is institutionally racist, and yet all of the institutions are run by the Left.

Biden is the personification of the Big Lie. He is the master of Newspeak.

As Carroll wrote:

When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less." "The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things." "The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master—that's all."

And that is the Stalinist, propagandist nature of the Establishment today.

It used to be the stuff of fairy tales and science fiction. Today it is the new reality.

GUS

I'm sorry, It may just be that APPALLING is an idiot.
I'm sure that is more likely.
His RETARDED attempts at PREMISE CONTROL is funny.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--I can either take umbrage at "bovine" as being an ad hominem and flounce off. --

It's not an ad hom. It's my description of what seems to be your lack, perhaps unrealized by you, of critical thinking which leads you to your erroneous positions. It's my favor to you. you're welcome.

-- please start breaking your graphs -- you are hard to read when you get all run on.--

It wasn't a run on. Just a long laundry list of Dem hideousness.

--My second reaction -- some of your prejudiced review of my thinking is quite wrong.--

You gave one example [probably the most socially accepted of the list] from many many examples. I assume consequently, the rest of my prejudiced review was pretty accurate. In either case you have evaded the central point of my review by picking a solitary example. I'll assume, unless you can honestly provide many more examples, that was intentional because my central point was valid. If my point was not valid that means you knew even 20 years ago the Dems were about to go all bat shit Bolshevik on us and that was fine by you.

--My third reaction ... So my crystal ball stinks.--

Perhaps you should use mine. It not only smells delightful but it's quite insightful.

I think a big difference in public opinion--and I'd never rely on a Gallup poll these days--is where people get their information from. ccgirl, soc security is mandatory (unless you work for govt). IRA is the private option if no 401k. Been around since the 80s... but user retains direct ownership and control of the funds. State control is a different scheme...you can control the bank that holds your IRA, but not the state.

Voter id required, either for absentee or in-person voting. Absentees must be requested, No mass mailings.

Early voting should be restricted to the weekend and Monday before election day.

Counting should be done with eyewitnesses in each precinct. Surveillance cameras required. Voter drops ballot into a locked box which is only opened when counting begins. Count is reported both by phone and on a web site. Totals must match.

Totaling the final vote for each voting district (congressional district and state)
should be reported to a central location and verified. Only when those totals are accepted should they report the winners to television and newspapers.
