Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Let's try that again;

--It's interesting that many authors, that I no longer read (gave up on), have become relevant again.
Maybe that's my own bias, filtering them out and now reading them again, but I think not. I think the pendulum has swung back and they've become appalled on how bad things have become.--

It's not you. It's them, jim.
They are appalled. But the sad thing is they are still effed up and blind. In some ways more blind than those appalling them.

--And one of the things I've noticed about these people who used to publish in what we came to call the mainstream-media is that they now refer to it as the "corporate-media."--

And this is the proof of their blindness and it's why, while I appreciate the shadows these legally blind dipsticks like Taibbi, Greenwald, Sullivan and even occasionally the gruesome Maher sense, I give them very little credit for their recoiling from the totalitarians among us. "Corporatism" is an amorphous, largely inert, meaningless nothingism that everyone has their own definition of.
For people like the blockheads above it means evil, bad, very bad, white men chomping large cigars that are thwarting true progressive progress by subverting and co-opting heavenly progressivism toward oligarchical rule and empowering the radical totalitarians and blah, frickin blah, blah, blah.

Progressivism is most basically irrational and unwilling to face reality. One of those realities is that its end point is the very totalitarians these appalled progressives are appalled by. Facing that would require our heroes to abandon their irrational ideology by recognizing that it is the ideology itself that is the problem, not fat jowls chomping cigars nor rainbow mohawked antifa losers hitting each other with bricks or trained Marxist Patrice Cullors building a real estate portfolio on George Floyd's dead, ODed back. All those people are genuine, honestly crooked, down to earth progressives grabbing as much filthy lucre and doing as much damage as possible in support of their greedy nihilistic creed. They take their progressivism seriously and they practice it and live it.
Our pointy headed, fastidious, appalled progressives OTOH are idealists who look away from the real final fruits of progressivism because they are far less honest and in many ways much more detached from reality than even the brick chuckers.
What our appalled progs are doing is watching the beginnings of another prog catastrophe unfolding right here and they're priming us for their next "Socialism has never really been tried" essay when the flames approach their gated communities. At which point they'll call, without irony, the reactionary and regressive coppers and soldiers and firemen to save their bacon, because ivory tower progs are always willing to fight to the last man for their ideals so long as that last man isn't them. Some prophet has to rise phoenix like from the ashes of another prog experiment gone up in flames like all the rest, to carry the torch to start the next conflagration. And it might as well be the comfy guys who brag behind their gates and armed guards about the great risks they take in carrying, like Leibowitz his Canticles, the relics of the progressive faith into an endless future of post apocalyptic disasters.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I was struck by the irony of jimmy's Bewitched link wherein George Washington was played by an unrepentant communist Will Geer preaching American liberty to a far left Elizabeth Montgomery and the painfully unfunny, pixelated fairy Dick Sargent.

matt - deplore me if you must

Even when ordering ice cream Biden has to show his idiotic side. A 2 scoop vanilla/chocolate cone? Was he singing Ebony and Ivory while he ate it?

As to iconic Royals as narc mentioned, I think the Queen is still on the stamps and the money. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Len

The "Bewitched" segment is a good reminder that actors will say anything for money.

MissMarple2

The Queen will be on the stamps and money until she is laid to rest. Then Charles will be. I wonder what name he will choose as king?

Once he is king, he will be the guy on stamps and money.

Summing up

Sen. Ben Sasse voted for a political inquisition with unlimited access to Congressional records with the goal of destroying the GOP while it ignored nationwide riots that killed dozens of people, led to massive spikes in crimes, and burned out downtown areas and small businesses.

On Memorial Day I always think of Buster Deyermond who was killed in Vietnam. He was a friend of my sister so 4 years older than me. But I’ve thought of him all the time since 1971.

LOL

Marlene

Jane, that is why Memorial Day is such a significant holiday. We remember. There is a bridge near us that crosses the Penobscot River. It is named in honor of Master Sgt. Gary Gordon who was killed in the Black Hawk Down incident. Small towns especially remember their heroes.

Jim Eagle

GUS,

Knock-knock! You there?

Jane

Thank God Marlene. Buster has been an important part of my life, yet I never really knew him.

Marlene

I've learned some history in the last 15 minutes. :) "The Spirit of the American Doughboy" statue in our little town is only one of 14 left in the country.

Barbara

Ignatz,

Your 10:15am comments defining progressivism and progressives in particular is excellent!

Melinda

I see that the Moonies are back out to sell:

A cult-like group that incorporates AR-15s into its worship ceremonies and embraces Donald Trump's MAGA politics has bought a compound for its "patriots" 40 miles from Waco in Texas.

[Nothing at all Waco-y about that.]

Marlene

Mel, I wonder if Chip and Joanna "fixed it up" for them? :) Very weird.

My conservative (Some would say neutral) posts on Facebook have received no comments and only three likes.

Anyone know individual progressives who recovered from their fantasy? Progressives cheated themselves of ever becoming honest. On the backs of claimed "victims" on whose behalf they contrived an unworkable world, they fabricated a shortcut to prog success guaranteed to fail. Faced with no way to reclaim their honesty, they can only become more absurd and shrill.

MissMarple2

I am on my phone and have trouble copying links. The Daily Mail has an horrific story about 250 children’s bodies dig up from one of those boarding schools run by the Canadian government. British Columbia. Just awful.

Mteamwhile, suddenly Jordan Peterson, Canadian psychologist and lecturer of note who never gets political, suddenly popped up to say that conservatives need to drop Trump and the stolen election theory and Lin’s need to drop CRT or else we will never have a compromise.

1. He needs to concentrate on getting rid of Trudeau and leave us the hell alone.

2. I am suspicious of his sudden interest in our politics.

3. I also wonder if he knew something about that mass grave in BC.

MissMarple2

I should have mentioned that the school housed Indian children forcibly taken from their parents. Many were beaten and sexually abused. Survivors testified about this several years ago.

MissMarple2

Sbwaters,

Just saw your reply to Jordan Peterson. Excellent!

“On Memorial Day I always think of Buster Deyermond who was killed in Vietnam. He was a friend of my sister so 4 years older than me. But I’ve thought of him all the time since 1971.”

We had a former neighbor in Detroit, big Catholic family, one of the sons went to Vietnam, then signed on for a second tour and was killed. Buddy Dunford. I was friends with his little sister at age 4.

Manuel Transmission

Well, we had a fun morning. Some local slag hustled up a protest at the courthouse on behalf of the Gaza scumbags. Our intrepid MAGA types who have gathered several times last year, decided to not let them go unchallenged.

So we gathered across the street and outnumbered and out flashed them.

The boss wore her kick ass T-shirt to put a little emphasis on things.

We made speeches, played music and then marched around town with US and Israeli flags and placards. Mostly good responses from passersby. Almost nobody gave a crap for the other mini-crowd.

I found that an email I sent to my alma mater was printed in the alumni news section of the college magazine:

Stephen Waters reported that he found Colgate’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion “Mission, Goals, Core Values and Principles” “wanting.” He wrote, “60 years ago, every young kid at our summer camp shouldered responsibility for a tall lanky kid, blind from birth. We guided him along the trails, to meals, to workshops, to play. He was ours — individually. That’s what torques me about pontificated policies on missions, goals, values, and principles. There is but 1 insight: Individuals matter. Identity politics undermines itself precisely because its group orientation places no value on the uniqueness of individuals. I wonder if Colgate still has a place for individuals who care for others for their individuality, not their group descriptors.”

MissMarple2

Sbwaters,

I think your statement is very perceptive, and I am glad it made it into the alumni paper. Maybe it will make some people to re-think their acceptance of groupthink.

Davod

sbWaters:

Up vote your 9:01. How do include an uptick?

In the olden days (1980s-90s) I served on the National Newspaper Association postal committee that met with national postal officials about issues that affected newspapers.

I started on the committee knowing little but the staff was excellent and I learned enough to once testify at a Congressional USPS oversight hearing.

Writing political editorials and watching the USPS, maybe they are interested in me, too.

I posted this on Facebook in response to a rant.

"More BS. The filibuster is a normal part of Senate parliamentary procedure. Look up Democrats filibusters. The House and Senate debate started by Republicans to question the 2020 Presidential elections is also a normal part of the ratification process. The Dems do it every time a Republican is elected. As far as 'Insurrections' go. What happened on January 6, 2021, must go down as the worst organized 'insurrection', in history. The only person killed was a female protestor shot by a Capitol policeman (Who cannot be named). We now know that it was the Capitol Police who fired smoke and gas at the protestors, not the protestors. We would know a lot more about what went on inside the Capitol if the Pelosi run Capitol administration would release some hours of video footage taken on January 6.
I then added - PS. I should say that there were other protestors who died of natural causes while part of the peaceful protests."

jim nj

narciso,

Yes, the shut-downs served their purpose, and those locales are now going to pay the price for that.

The states that now have relatively low unemployment will probably see even lower unemployment in the near future. The states with relatively high unemployment now will probably see that trend continue for a long time. Businesses that might have limped along under a looser lock-down in those latter states have closed permanently.

Any city or state dependent on tourism for part of its economy is in for a long haul as many of them have endured continued bouts of criminality.

For many of these cities it's going to be a replay of the effects of the late sixties riots. A quick decay, followed by a continuing hollowing out.

jim nj

Tourism in the US has changed. We've seen that over the last year. People have traveled to the open states. It's tourism escapism.

Last year, even with NJ's lock-down, beach badge revenue down the shore went up, even though many towns limited beach badges.

Many rentals last year were cancelled down the shore, only to be scoffed up by people who wanted to escape more restrictive jurisdictions. So the beach badge revenue went up. What they lost on day-trippers and motel reservations they made up for in new full-time seasonal residents.

What I'm reading now is that shore rentals are mostly unavailable as they are fully booked. Whether the motels will rebound fully is still a question.

Since Gov. Murphy finally adopted the CDC guidance on masking I expect the Jersey shore to have a banner year now. Who wants to travel to Europe right now? Ditto for the other usual foreign destinations.

jim nj

Europe. Height of its tourism season. Looking for a way to institute Covid-19 health passports to allow Americans to visit.

Hello! You want to limit the ability of the most heavily vaccinated population on the planet from visiting a continent that has botched the same process?

Pinandpuller

I went through a phase where I was obsessed with Cop Audit videos, and I got a little burned out on them. But, with all that’s occurred I’m back to watching them.

Like this one, for instance: Do You Have to Show Your Receipt? https://youtu.be/Q1Z6SCamuPQ

The part that jumped out at me was the Common Law Doctrine of Shopkeeper’s Privilege. The particular authority a Shopkeeper has to detain a person for a brief period of time, but if the detention, or say the accusation against you, goes sideways then they just obtained all of the liability.

So why couldn’t the downside of Shopkeeper’s Privilege be used against someone like Jack Dorsey? He has the right to detain your tweets about human engineered Covid viruses but if he’s proven wrong, shouldn’t he be held liable?

But like I’ve said before, I ain’t no Big City Lawyah.

Ugh, sorry Steph.

On a related note a good friend has four sons and a daughter. His second youngest son, an Army helicopter pilot, was supposed to be married today at my friend's house.
They had a batchelor party for him at Lake Tahoe for a couple of days in the middle of the week. Got word Thursday afternoon his next son up in age who is about little Ig's age, 29 I think, died. I'm not sure how yet.
His dad is a long time and superb cabinet maker and the son who died has worked with him for years. Beautiful, sweet wife and two little kids.
Gah. Life can turn on a dime.
