I'm getting too old for this. Becoming an expert on the Texas power grid doesn't seem like much of a hobby for my sunset years.
Texas grid operator urges electricity conservation as many power generators are unexpectedly offline and temperatures rise
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas says a large number of power plants are offline, but it could not provide details as to what may be causing the “very concerning” number of outages. At the same time, the state is experiencing near-record demand for electricity in June.
I'm sure the late spring(!) heat wave isn't helping but c'mon - Texas gets hot in the summer is news? Texas gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer and the gird can't handle either?!?
Well. Each morning in my (relative) youth I rode the Metro North commuter rail into the Greatest City in the World. I learned that light rail is the most economical and reliable form of mass transit EVER! Unless it is too hot, too cold, too sunny, too rainy, or there are too many squirrels playing near the tracks. Metro North sort of had the reverse Post Office motto - almost nothing could fail to derail them.
If Texas is going to mess with us and undermine the case for light regulation with their stupid grid problems there will be outrage. Probably not from me, however.
the gird from the post-quote paragraph reminds me of what an overweight relative wore in the 60s to family reunions.
Remember how I keep warning that the phrase School Choice is a red herring and not the hoped for solution. That unesco even refers to it as "non-state actor providers" and loves it?

The Wiki page for ERCOT claims that the North American Electric Reliability Corp.'s 2019 report says that TX was the sole part of the country without sufficient resources available to meet projected peak electricity demand in summertime.
Reliable under Goldilocks conditions, apparently.

Posted by: MissMarple2 | June 15, 2021 at 11:08 AM
One of the reasons ERCOT is in the news is that except for a small portion in the north and north east of Texas it is a stand-alone region - no interconnections like the other 5 regional councils.
So, if plants go down, there is little interconnections from utilities outside Texas to back up their needs.

It would seem to me that there would be an opportunity to build a NG a fired power plant somewhere near, say, the oil fields or even the pipeline hubs in Texas, wouldn't ya think?
Texas' population has been growing, so it's no wonder that the system is being strained.
She-it, maybe selling Texans their very own power plants could be a thing. They could sell a King Ranch version and make a killing.

How Zuckerberg Millions Paid for Progressives to Work With 2020 Vote Officials Nationwide
In the months leading up to November’s election, voting officials in major cities and counties worked with a progressive group funded by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and its allies to create ballots, strategically target voters and develop “cure” letters in situations where mail-in ballots were in danger of being tossed out.
The Center for Tech and Civic Life, or CTCL, provided millions of dollars in private funding for the elections that came from a $350 million donation from Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan. The CTCL gave “COVID-19 response” grants of varying amounts to 2,500 municipalities in 49 states.

Green energy failed in TX. In particular, the wind didn’t blow. TX needs to use hydrocarbons (which it has plenty off) and find a way to connect the intermittent green energy to someone else’s grid. (Hopefully not my grid, which is chasing TX levels of green reliability on its own).

Michael Smith:
Biden is the only president who can show up two hours late for a press conference and still not be there.
Xi, Putin and the leaders of the G-7 are licking their chops after the display of senility and weakness Biden put on.
Biden is the doddering old man these conmen have targeted and intend to scam out of his life savings (which will be our tax money).
Something I noticed as we witnessed my mother mentally slip away - she was most comfortable in familiar settings with people with whom she was familiar - and to cope with change, in her mind she would often substitute similar situations and people from her past for current events.
If you pay attention to Biden's handlers, they are being obsessively careful to protect him from anything new or unfamiliar. I think that is why you only see him going to places he visited when he was Obama's VP and doing things in which he used to have a role.
I think that is probably why he confused Libya for Syria. Libya wasn't the public failure that Obama's inaction on Syria was and he remembers it, probably because he and Hillary were deeper engaged than anyone knew at the time.
It is my belief that when this man is placed in a stressful situation, he will default to one of two modes - as my mother did - either complete anger and frustration or complete shutdown.
As a nation, we are in more danger from our own leadership than any time since Woodrow Wilson.

Sheesh. The boss scrambles in to get me after spotting a fledge Junco over on Jane’s deck. I grab my big camera and head over to see a little guy snuggled against the edge of the deck. As I crouch down to get a decent perspective, I hear a thunk on the window over my head and see a hummer drop in front of me. WTH! The boss picks him up and carries him over to a table in the sun and then I notice a 2nd fledge Junco right there. She brings the 1st one over to where the 2nd one was and about that time the parents show up and give us shit, so we repair to a remote spot. Don’t know if the folks can keep them safe and fed or not. And no sign of whatever nest they fell out of. Maybe there is a bird void bubble that drifted in.
Of course we are a sanctuary county, so maybe that’s a factor.

I think that I read back during the Winter Crisis that energy producers were regulated by the Texas Railroad Commission.
The commission has been infiltrated by renewable energy types over the last 20-30 years foisting their new religion.
If I recall correctly, some northener, an Illini type who had imbibed the green energy hoax was forced off the commission due to debacle.
Hopefully for The Lone Star, that was only the start of bloodletting and they will get back to producing reliable, coal and gas fired electricity soon.
I know there are some pretty knowlederable peeps on the board who have discussed the timeline of producing that type of energy.
What would you say, 10 years to rectify the situation?
