Kabul has fallen and the Afghan "government" has fled?!?
Afghanistan Live Updates: Government Collapses as President Flees, and Taliban Enter Kabul
The U.S. military raced to evacuate diplomats and civilians as the insurgents stood poised to retake complete control of the country 20 years after being toppled by American forces.

Taliban fighters are assuming control of the Afghan capital of Kabul and have taken control of the presidential palace, after the country's president Ashraf Ghani fled to Tajikistan.
One of its units shared pictures of the Palace interior – seemingly intact, but empty and abandoned by Afghan officials – on an official Telegram account. A video posted on social media a few hours before showed fighters arriving at the Presidential Palace in Kabul
The group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said earlier that its forces would begin entering areas of the city where the government officials and security forces had abandoned their posts."
“This morning the Islamic Emirate released a statement that our forces were outside Kabul city and we did not want to enter Kabul through military ways,” he said. “However, now we are getting reports that the district police offices are evacuated, police has left their job of ensuring the security, also the ministries are emptied and the security personnel of the Kabul administration has fled.”
“Therefore, in order to avoid any looting and burglary in Kabul and stop opportunists from harming the people, the Islamic Emirate has advised its forces to enter those areas of the city where the enemy has left and the areas are at risk of looting and burglary,” he added.
Social media posts and witness accounts suggest Taliban presence within the city is growing.

James D,
I have never voted “against” someone like you seem to think TM did. (I have no info that he did but you seem to have that evidence). Voting against someone is a pretty “chickenshit” way of protesting your vote. If you vote for the individual based on their positions and ideas compatible to your positions and values, fine.
But to vote against someone based on the same principle but not for the values extended by the electee is really grade school logic.

For decades, Joe Biden has touted himself as a foreign policy genius. As a United States senator, he never had to make a decision or bear responsibility for running off at the mouth. As vice-president, he was given backwaters such as Ukraine that he reportedly turned into a family piggy bank.
But now he is president. He owns the utter disaster that Afghanistan has become; and the sudden about-face of the Pentagon to send 3,000 fully-armed combat troops back into the fray shows that even the woke military bosses Biden installed can wake up and smell the coffee.

This is in preparation for the CDC's new "Shielding Approach" aka FEMA CAMPS. What is the Shielding Approach?
According to the CDC's website, it aims to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases by limiting contact between individuals at higher risk of developing severe disease (“high-risk”) and the general population (“low-risk”). High-risk individuals would be temporarily relocated to safe or “green zones” established at the household, neighborhood, camp/sector or community level.
They would have minimal contact with family members and other low-risk residents. "Implementation of the approach necessitates strict adherence."”

Regarding Momto2's excellent book review about the upcoming generation, I remember the fall of Saigon and how ashamed I was of how THAT was handled.
My daughter wasn't even born when that happened, and my son (ten years older) doesn't remember much because he wasn't watching news coverage.
So, most of the younger people, whose American history books cram everything from WW1 to Desert Storm into a gobbledygook of "recent history" into the last chapter or two of their history books, where it's presented as mostly rich with their boots on the necks of everyone (except FDR and JFK, who are presented as saints) and our nation being a shameful country, who doesn't care about innocent civilians and doesn't keep its word, therefore has nothing to be proud of, the last being the 1980 Miracle on Ice. Plus it's covered in May, when all the kids are thinking about summer vacation.
As you can tell, this gets me fired up!

Michael Smith
Look, Clinton was a horndog with a taste for interns, Obama was a slick, race baiting liar with the personality of a used car salesman, and these two were true scumbags - but I never felt personally slimed with their scum. I felt distanced from their evil, able to stand back and observe.
But Biden and his ilk hve vomited a coat of slick, chunky detritus all over every institution in America and it is hard for me not to feel covered in the fetid sludge as I think of Joe Biden and his criminal organization of Biden, Biden, Biden and Biden, Inc.
There is just something so low brow about the obvious and in-your-face corruption of The Big Guy, Dr. Jill, Bro James and Hunter the Hoemonger. I think the Big Guy taught Obama the art of the steal before he started to slip - but notice how Obama doesn't want anything to do with Biden now. I think Obama sees the chance to get free of his obligations to Biden and just let him slip into oblivion. Obama paid his debt by getting the presidency for his former VP.
I do think Old Joe is being used because he ain't all there, but the people around him are like the cast of a bad Lifetime movie (the network that has movies with titles like "Psycho Storm Chaser", "My Husband's Killer Girlfriend" and "Lethal Love Triangle").
Maybe something like "My Husband, the Mentally Defective President" or "I'm in Charge Now, the Untold Story of Dr. Jill Biden".
B,B,B & B are all propping up the Big Guy for personal enrichment - I can see Dr. Jill giving a semi-conscious Joe injections and encouraging him to "take your medicine, we need you to do a hit for CNN". Let me get you some ice cream."
It's all so obvious and the remarkable thing is people just don't care.
Everything about these people is just wrong.

I spent almost an hour on the phone with a couple of buddies who were at the sharp end of the stick in Iraq and Afghanistan for several tours. These were front line paratroopers.
They said that it was perfectly obvious from the beginning that the ANA and ANP were worthless. No commitment. No esprit, but rather the opposite.
The fobbits never left their bases or "fusion"centers. The generals were too busy. The intel and political were clueless.
A complete system failure.
And yet even with that a few thousand US and Allied troops; mechanics to fix their shit, and air support would have held the Taliban at bay.
If ever there was a colossal f up it was Afghanistan.

"And we will accelerate the evacuation of thousands of Afghans eligible for U.S. Special Immigrant Visas, nearly 2,000 of whom have already arrived in the United States over the past two weeks. For all categories, Afghans who have cleared security screening will continue to be transferred directly to the United States. And we will find additional locations for those yet to be screened."
So, beginning 2 weeks ago we were bringing in Afghanis. Wasn't this when Biden (I believe last Thursday) told us that there was nothing to be concerned about?

The shockwaves are already being felt. A former Israeli ambassador said today that Israel must rely on themselves. Cut & Run Joe can't be trusted.
“The USA is our closest ally. They have been there for Israel time & again over the years. But the horrific events in Afghanistan must be a hard, scary lesson about changing interests & cold, hard calculations.”
“Dangerously, in 2021, self-reliance is more important than ever,” he said.
None of our allies have ever voiced this opinion. Japan is going to re-arm now as well to defend themselves from China. A lot of very smart people are worried as hell about Taiwan's future.
The loss of Taiwan would be cataclysmic. Say goodbye to your high tech devices. Even cars and tv's are dependent upon the Taiwanese supply chain. The internet would also take a massive hit.
The only real way to solve this issue now is a clear threat to China that if they try to take Taiwan we go nuclear. We made the mistake of not recognizing China's threat in 1950. MacArthur thought we had it in the bag until 300,000 Chinese troops crossed the border.
As is being demonstrated in real time our leaders are a bunch of feckless fucks who can't tell their asses from a hole in the ground.
Two can play at closing the Straights of Hormuz as well, but it will get nasty. Our allies cannot trust us and our enemies are gaining strength by the day.
As far as I know the Chinese don't yet have an ABM system nor a Sea-Air-Land deterrent.
I hate to even think in these terms, but Xi is the most ruthless dictator since Stalin and has his eye set on ruling the world. Anschluss in Hong Kong, Bringing the non-state owned industries into the service of the state. All of this presages a war of conquest and he knows his Sun Tzu.

Let's hope the Taiwanese have already or are now restarting their nuclear program and letting Peking know.
China could turn Taiwan to glass but the rest of the world will wall them off if they do so.
And if Taiwan got nukes delivered before the glazing event, the world wouldn't have to wall China off if Shanghai and Peking and a few other cities are smoldering radioactive ruins.

Falling? Afghanistan has fallen hook, line and sinker..
The Taliban offensives began in early May. At first it was bloody. A lot of dead on both sides. But as it progressed more and more government forces simply surrendered or walked away.
The march on Kabul became a parade of dusty pickup trucks carrying fighters and confiscated HMMV's. Who needs MRAP's and tanks?
In Afghanistan, the man with the gun over there holds all the power, and it is that immediate. Do what he says and you survive.
Let's see what is next.
