It's a nightmare on Capitol Hill for the president's party, as October passes by without a deal.

House liberals left the Capitol triumphant on Thursday night after once again scuttling a major vote. Every other Democrat was fuming.

For the second time in less than a month, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her leadership team had to delay a vote on Senate-passed infrastructure bill amid progressive opposition, denying President Joe Biden a much-need win as Democrats’ bigger, $1.75 trillion social spending plan also remains in limbo.

“I think it’s wholly apparent that today was not a success,” said Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger, whose state has a high-stakes gubernatorial showdown Tuesday that Democrats were hoping to boost with the infrastructure vote.

Ms. Spanberger came to national attention in the aftermath of the 2020 election, when she promised to draw on her CIA background to hunt down and choke out the next Dem to say "Defund the police".

I was being a little contrary myself. You are right, of course, when I think about it. It was one of the original cabinet positions when the country was founded.

I know plenty of people who got Post Office jobs after graduating. They actually made a comfortable living and retired to a nice pension.

I gripe about them once in a while because our neighborhood drew a poor route driver compared to where I used to live, which had excellent service. I think the problems have been made worse over the last year due to the supply chain mess and fuel costs.

In the 70's it was a decent sized bar/nightclub. In the 80's they bought the adjoining block-front and added an open-air pavilion with multiple bar-stations. Really nice when you wanted to chill out and get away from the loud music. Not so good on a rainy night.

Eventually they built a slim two-story bar with an open balcony on the north section. I haven't been there in twenty years, or so, but they tore that down and put up a new two-story structure enclosing most of the pavilion before the "Jersey Shore" people showed up on MTV.

Maybe bigger isn't always better.

We just received another phone call that is devastating. One of our neighbors in Florida has died of Covid. She lived in Minnesota and had been in the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. We have no idea about her underlying health issues, but another friend/neighbor said she had some health problems over the summer. She was a sweet woman, very conservative. During neighborhood parties, I'd always have a side conversation with her about politics. She was especially upset about what happened in Minneapolis in the summer of 2020.
