Let's give Joe Biden credit - he's got the trains running on time. They keep crashing into each other, but at least the train wrecks have a now-familiar script.
Dems limp out of another stumble-ending month
It's a nightmare on Capitol Hill for the president's party, as October passes by without a deal.
House liberals left the Capitol triumphant on Thursday night after once again scuttling a major vote. Every other Democrat was fuming.
For the second time in less than a month, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her leadership team had to delay a vote on Senate-passed infrastructure bill amid progressive opposition, denying President Joe Biden a much-need win as Democrats’ bigger, $1.75 trillion social spending plan also remains in limbo.
“I think it’s wholly apparent that today was not a success,” said Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger, whose state has a high-stakes gubernatorial showdown Tuesday that Democrats were hoping to boost with the infrastructure vote.
Ms. Spanberger came to national attention in the aftermath of the 2020 election, when she promised to draw on her CIA background to hunt down and choke out the next Dem to say "Defund the police".
Hmm. My memory may be engaging in hyperbole. But not by much!

In the summer of 2004, Stoney served as a Governor's Fellow in Mark Warner's administration.[4] Stoney then worked as an organizer in John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign as well as for the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin in a get out the vote effort. Five of his colleagues were later charged with slashing the tires of a van meant to be used to drive Republican voters to the polls. Stoney initially lied to police claiming he had no knowledge about the incident. He later admitted to FBI

investigators that he was present in the Democratic campaign offices after his colleagues came in to brag about slashing the tires. Stoney then went on to testify against his colleagues and fully cooperated with law enforcement. After questioning during a committee meeting with Virginia Republican lawmakers about his indiscretion, it was accepted as "an isolated, youthful mistake."[8][9][10]

In 2011, after losing his father, who (with his grandmother) had supported his political involvement (and after Creigh Deeds lost the 2009 Virginia gubernatorial race to Republican Bob McDonnell), Stoney began working as a consultant at Green Tech, an automotive company run by Terry McAuliffe (who had lost to Deeds in the 2009 Democratic gubernatorial primary).[4] The following year Stoney began working with McAuliffe's 2013 gubernatorial campaign, as deputy campaign manager, under campaign manager Robby Mook.[13] When McAuliffe won, Stoney became deputy director of the gubernatorial transition team, during which McAuliffe described Stoney as his "closest adviser."[14]

As do I. The USPS is great-- they work hard, move huge amounts of mail and parcels nationwide to obscure locales at reasonable prices and it's only the nutbag righties who push to privatize it who've done damage to it over the years. Ben Franklin would be rolling over in his grave if he saw what they're doing to it. The USPS is still a bargain -- and a national treasure.

Alert from Amazon… you order delivered. (An hour ago).
No knock on the door. Nothing on the step or deck. Drive down to the road (800 yards, decided beer would taste good with dinner so went to retch), and there is a package in my neighbor’s horse corral near my driveway. Yep. My order. Glad I didn’t order a bag of oats. UPS delivery at work.
——
Order I had to sign for / pick up was a new iPhone. In this digital age, it took a hour to locate the correct size paper clip to move the SIM card from the old phone to the new one. What kind of engineer requires an obsolete artifact to operate their new digital thingamabob? Explain that Tim Cook.

I just have to hope some guy hasn't stolen them or they're not crammed behind a bulkhead somewhere and that they'll eventually pop free.
So far they have, but that is not acceptable performance or customer service.

Yes, they are, Iggy. A service open to 333,000,000 citizens that gets grandma's birthday card w/$10 tucked in it to a happy grandchild, a love letter to treasure and re-read on your 50th wedding anniversary; a Christmas card to keep for your great-grand kids to read... and gets 'em to those special people from Hawaii to Maine in just a few days at a very low cost. It's a fantastic system, Iggy, and one all Americans should treasure.
Posted by: DCSCA | November 01, 2021 at 09:51 PM
'I hate all my euro designed appliances, over engineered and much too fussy.'
OTOH, if somebody smashes into your American made car and damages your dashboard ripping out the radio-- you usually have to purchase an entire replacement plastic dashboard whereas 'Euro design' in foreign cars have the dashboards engineered in sections- so you only have to replace the damaged section, not forced to buy an entire piece.
Posted by: DCSCA | November 01, 2021 at 09:55 PM
The USPS also regularly operates at a loss of around $10 billion/year. I don't know who is paying for that, but it's a bit easier to provide decent service at a low cost when someone else is footing the bill. I don't defend Amazon, FedEx, UPS, though my experiences have been ok with all of them, but they have to answer for their bottom lines.

Are you just setting out to be contrary this evening?
Posted by: MissMarple2 | November 01, 2021 at 09:59 PM
"I remember being in school and writing using wooden pens with metal nibs that you dipped into an ink pot."
I remember writing 'practice checks' in grade school in the mid-1960s... and learned recently that my 21 year old nephew- a bio-engineer no less- had no idea how to physically write a check-- he was never taught how to do it; everything in his education 'universe' was by plastic or I-phone clicks.
Posted by: DCSCA | November 01, 2021 at 10:03 PM
'The USPS also regularly operates at a loss of around $10 billion/year.'
1. It's not supposed to be a profit center. 2. It operates at a loss due to fuel issues and was forced by Congress to have a flush pension system multiple decades into the future as a backdoor way to force rate increases. Today it contracts w/FedEx to move mail.
Posted by: DCSCA | November 01, 2021 at 10:06 PM
MissMarple2- No, not contrary, just believe everything isn't black and white and some functions like the PO are good. If you truly wanted to streamline it by population [there was a proposal to do that] and by use, Liz Cheney's Wyoming would have 4 post offices.

--It's a fantastic system, Iggy, and one all Americans should treasure.--
I concur that it is a system.

DCSCA,
I was being a little contrary myself. You are right, of course, when I think about it. It was one of the original cabinet positions when the country was founded.
I know plenty of people who got Post Office jobs after graduating. They actually made a comfortable living and retired to a nice pension.
I gripe about them once in a while because our neighborhood drew a poor route driver compared to where I used to live, which had excellent service. I think the problems have been made worse over the last year due to the supply chain mess and fuel costs.

"Helping ugly people get lucky since 1941."
I don't think they've used that slogan for quite some time, but it will definitely not be used any longer as the iconic Bamboo Bar in Seaside Heights, NJ, was torn down over the weekend.
Video of the tear-down:

In the 70's it was a decent sized bar/nightclub. In the 80's they bought the adjoining block-front and added an open-air pavilion with multiple bar-stations. Really nice when you wanted to chill out and get away from the loud music. Not so good on a rainy night.
Eventually they built a slim two-story bar with an open balcony on the north section. I haven't been there in twenty years, or so, but they tore that down and put up a new two-story structure enclosing most of the pavilion before the "Jersey Shore" people showed up on MTV.
Maybe bigger isn't always better.

Take the definition of VACCINE, which was recently changed by a DEEP STATE, FULL COMMIE, LIBOCRAT MARXIST PARTY and it's HANDLERS.
The INFLATION INDEX is not "SETTLED SCIENCE", nor "THE LAW OF THE LAND".....Yet is discludes the price of any energy source that POOR BLACK VICTIMS, and the rest of us pay. It also does not INCLUDE the PRICES of FOOD STUFFS, and MILK ECT.

"U.S. Navy investigators have concluded that a submarine that sustained significant damage in the South China Sea ran into a previously uncharted seamount while operating in international waters."

This seems strange. Don't they have sonar or something to detect how close they are to the bottom? (This is not my field of expertise, so maybe this is normal.)

Clarice-
It's the cash commitment from the US that they're all clamoring over. Mainlining grift.

We just received another phone call that is devastating. One of our neighbors in Florida has died of Covid. She lived in Minnesota and had been in the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. We have no idea about her underlying health issues, but another friend/neighbor said she had some health problems over the summer. She was a sweet woman, very conservative. During neighborhood parties, I'd always have a side conversation with her about politics. She was especially upset about what happened in Minneapolis in the summer of 2020.
RIP Marcia.
We've seen pictures of our Maine neighbor's terrible house fire. Total loss.
Ugh.

Another odd story. If the bookstore owner scheduled a book signing with a conservative author, shouldn't she have known her market? Seems odd that she was overwhelmed with objections so quickly.
And why would the author's publicist schedule a likely-to-be-disrupted event in such a location?
I don't like being manipulated by either side.
