Let's give Joe Biden credit - he's got the trains running on time. They keep crashing into each other, but at least the train wrecks have a now-familiar script.
Dems limp out of another stumble-ending month
It's a nightmare on Capitol Hill for the president's party, as October passes by without a deal.
House liberals left the Capitol triumphant on Thursday night after once again scuttling a major vote. Every other Democrat was fuming.
For the second time in less than a month, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her leadership team had to delay a vote on Senate-passed infrastructure bill amid progressive opposition, denying President Joe Biden a much-need win as Democrats’ bigger, $1.75 trillion social spending plan also remains in limbo.
“I think it’s wholly apparent that today was not a success,” said Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger, whose state has a high-stakes gubernatorial showdown Tuesday that Democrats were hoping to boost with the infrastructure vote.
Ms. Spanberger came to national attention in the aftermath of the 2020 election, when she promised to draw on her CIA background to hunt down and choke out the next Dem to say "Defund the police".
Hmm. My memory may be engaging in hyperbole. But not by much!

Michael P. Senger has a book coming out called "Snake Oil". It details Xi's background, rise to power, and how he managed to get almost everyone in the world to accept lockdowns as a solution to Covid, even though there was no proof it worked at all.
It also discusses how they use human "bots" to bypass the algorithms designed to detect fake accounts.
He has posted a very long, documented thread on Twitter. Here is the link:

We all know there are people on the left - most of them, actually - who either are genetically unable to get satire or take a joke - or have worked so hard to be outraged by everything they don't like, they have trained themselves out of having any sense of humor at all.
I just got the below screenshot for a group of which I am an administrator, proving that fact. This is about a clearly photoshopped image of cargo vessels off the coast of California spelling out "Let's go, Brandon".
Farcebook is calling it “stolen satire”, claiming it is “stolen” from the Babylon Bee and presented as fact.
Well, alrighty then.
I’ve always thought that is kind of the definition of satire, something so absurd that it couldn’t be true but with just enough connection to the truth to be funny. I’m pretty sure the Bee counts on their work getting shared. That is the point – at least as I understand the Internet of funny things.
It even sounds like the perpetually aggrieved leftist raw nerve scolds may well have misunderstood the Southwest pilot when he said, “Let’s go, Braves” on a flight from Houston to Albuquerque to cheer on his favorite MLB team (playing in Houston that night) rather than him saying “Let’s go, Brandon”.
When you are so hypocritical and indoctrinated, sometimes you hear what you want to hear or maybe you know Biden sucks worse than an F-5 tornado and are primed to hear other people say so.
A regular contributor at NBC/MSNBC, Ken “Collusion” Dilanian, reported that he called the Secret Service about a gun manufacturer who put “Let’s go, Brandon” on the uppers for AR-15 builds, claiming it was a direct threat against Biden.
And as President Depends would say, “God love him, he was serious”.
Malcom Muggeridge, the great British journalist, author and satirist, once said:
“We live in an age in which it is no longer possible to be funny. There is nothing you can imagine, no matter how ludicrous, that will not promptly be enacted before your very eyes, probably by someone well known.”
This has come to be known as Muggeridge’s Law.
In 1989, Tom Wolfe explained the genesis of Muggeridge’s Law:
“While Malcolm Muggeridge was editor of Punch, it was announced that Khrushchev and Bulganin were coming to England. Muggeridge hit upon the idea of a mock itinerary, a lineup of the most ludicrous places the two paunchy, pear-shaped little Soviet leaders could possibly be paraded through during the solemn business of a state visit. Shortly before press time, half the feature had to be scrapped. It coincided exactly with the official itinerary, just released, prompting Muggeridge to observe: We live in an age in which it is no longer possible to be funny. There is nothing you can imagine, no matter how ludicrous, that will not promptly be enacted before your very eyes, probably by someone well known.”
Given our times, I am actually surprised the Babylon Bee can continue to be as successful as they are. Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit fame has taken to calling them “America’s Newspaper of Record”, simply because so much of their satire comes true.
There was even a lengthy “fact check” from USA Today.
Unbelievable.
Almost, anyway.
These people are so mentally ill and possess so little self-awareness, they can’t even see how absurd and ridiculous they are. If we lived in a serious culture, where there wasn’t a market for outrage on the left, these people would all be homeless – because ginning up agitprop is their only skill.
I’ve been around the sun a few times and I have learned that the people who react the strongest to mocking are those who know they deserve to be mocked – and these people deserve every bit of mockery and ridicule that can be heaped upon them.
My advice to the leftist media?
Get help.
Now.

We were there from 1983 to 2003. First in Harrington Gardens (Kensington) then Chester Close in Belgravia. Found out after 9/11 or actually doing it, that we were considered neighbors to the Palace and got a visit from the anti-terror unit of Metro. My FIL was there and got a big kick out of seeing these anti-terror cops show up and ask me who I was and where I live right in front of my front door:)
We all shared a nervous laugh over that but the helicopters patrolling over head all night reminded me we did live next to the Queen. According to the Met we were the closest living neighbors out side the offices near the Gardens.
Hardly slept that night.

Yep, sonar is a nono for the nukes. Volcanic seamounts do their own thing under the seas… it might not have been there when the map was made.
Satellites can only see a little bit into the ocean, thus big things like the Malaysian Air plane or a new seamount could be anywhere. Even when you know where the are, it is tough… the Red October sprint through “red route one” is an example.

Jack- From 1968 to 1972. Princes Gate, Knightsbridge, SW7. The stories I could tell. remember the Horse Guards barracks there on Knightsbridge Road? It was caddycorner to our block of flats; it took them 5 years to build it- never understood that-- in the U.S. it would have been built in 12 months.
Anti-terror cops? Here's a true story for you- one from "the spce age"--- back in '69 we would fire off those toy model rockets in Hyde Park - grandfather mailed the Estes gunpowder rocket motors over from the U.S. - no customs hassle in those days. But batteries were a problem. No 6V lantern batteries in the UK. So kids in science club wired batteries up in a series- but the charge didn't last long. One Saturday we just left them by a trash binin the park cross from the Dorchester Hotel- "littered" in typical American fashion. But the UK Eveready batteries were long rectangles and bright orange with the wires still on them. Next day we went back w/fresh batteries to fire off more and the cops had them roped off. Thought they were an IRA bomb. Canadian kid w/me ducked under the yellow tape and kicked them, telling the cops it was just a pile of dead bateries-- 50 cops hit the dirt. It was unreal. WA-wa-Wa-wa came the paddywagon -- took us kids off to the little police station inside Marble Arch [who knew there was one tucked inside it?!?!] Turns out the cops called the British Army bomb disposal team which at the time was in Wales and they were flying in on a C-130, so the police told us. I had to explain to the cops they were just toy rockets. I ws sternly to never to do fire them off again and "banned" from ever do it from ANY of Her Majesty's parks. As we left we heard nervous laughter from the other cops. But their concern was real. A few months later the IRA blew out the observation deck of the GPO Tower in central London.
Totally true story.

Jack- another true story. Back in 68/69 there were filming a movie called 'The Battle of Britain'- you've probably seen it. In the movie, there are a few scenes they had to film w/German bombers, ME-109s, Spitfires and Hurricanes flying and shooting it out over Central London-- the camera plane was a B-25. So a few days before, one of the tabloids [Evening Standard if memory serves] ran a story alerting the old British pensioners who'd been through the Blitz not to be frighten if they saw German planes, Spits and Hurricanes over the city again-- it was just for a film.
We all went out into Hyde Park to watch them filming it-- and the sight-- but more importantly, the SOUND of the bombers and fighter planes t such low levels was surreal-- you really got a sense of what Londoners endured all those months. Will never forget it. After living there and seeing so much of their country- and of Europe and even the then USSR, my admiration for the British is unbounded. They're a good people.

Jack-- I vividly recall a concert going on one warm Sunday afternoon and I had the window open while trying to do my Algebra homework and the Rolling Stones was playing over in Hyde Park. It was surreal. Similar thing happened out near St. John's Wood- my school for a semester was in Finchley [Thatcher was the PM then BTW] but on the way the #2 bus out to Swiss Cottage and Finchley would go by the cricket grounds -- where Abbey Road is and one day we saw the traffic and commotion as the Beatles were playing on the roof of their studios. We just took all this stuff in stride-- who know any of it would be significant decades later.

Oops- Thatcher was Finchley's MP then- not the PM. Wilson, then Heath were the PMs in out time there. Funny thing is, at the time the big debate there was always about Brits clamoring to create/get into the "Common Market".. and 50 years later, just the opposite: Brexit!
