It's now or later - the always interesting and sometimes reliable David Corn reports that Sen. Manchin aired a plan to ease on out of the Democratic Party. The current point is to pressure Biden, Pelosi and Schumer on the package formerly known as the $6 trillion social infrastructure bill. Manchin wants to to cap it at $1.75 trillion and apparently expressed major philosophical differences with his party:
Manchin has repeatedly said he has a significant philosophical difference with most of his fellow Democrats. He has told reporters that he believes major programs in the Build Back Better bill would move the United States toward an “entitlement mentality” and that he cannot accept that. In a recent meeting with Biden, Manchin told the president that he sees government as a partner with the public not the ultimate provider, according to people who heard the senator’s account of the conversation. He explained to the president that in his view Biden didn’t win the presidency last year by championing progressive proposals, and he pressed the president to recall his campaign promise to bring people together. He also reminded Biden that he has vowed not to support any package unless it contains the Hyde Amendment, which bans the use of federal funds to pay for abortions, except in cases of incest or when the life of the mother is at risk.
Left up in the air is whether Independent Joe would caucus with the Dems and leave Sen. Schumer as Majority Leader (for now) or swing a deal with Cocaine Mitch and join the Republicans. Time will tell but let me note this - Manchin will get a better deal with Mitch now then he will after Nov 2022 if the Republicans win back the Senate without him.
As to what will be won by whom come Nov 2022, we are in or around coin-toss territory. But there is a lot of time left, obviously.
Clarice - very worthwhile essay but as the country has gone left, calm, reasoned responses have not only left the building, they have left the country.

CA has been as dry as a bone for more than a decade. Businesses and residents are leaving. I guess that Greater East Asia Prosperity Sphere was just a thing, huh?
The revisionism and historicism is really that blatant these days. Nevermind the fact that the Muslims and Hindus were regularly warring and butchering each other in India and that suttee was the norm and Maharajas had absolute power; the same in most of the pre-colonial societies.
The Europeans did exploit their colonies but getting the US mixed up in it is bullshit. The Japanese from 1867 played off the various Western countries against each other and were quite successful while China remained an old, sick empire exploited by all.
Out here Garcetti just removed a statue of Fr. Serra in LA and the Church has said nothing so far although the Archbishop did denounce the leftists for their propaganda a while back.
Unfortunately, they nibble at the edges and do their best to sneak through their agenda. CRT is perhaps the most illustrative example.

From American Digest.
A Cabinet of Confabulations
We all know the flippety-floppety fabrications. Below is just a sampling:2
“The risk to the American public is low” (January 29, 2020) … 100,000–200,000 Americans could die from it (March 29, 2020) … make that 1.6–2.2 million (March 30, 2020).
Travel restrictions are “irrelevant” in a pandemic (February 26, 2020) … “if you want to go on a cruise ship, go on a cruise ship” (March 9, 2020) … we should be really careful about lifting travel restrictions (March 31, 2020).
“There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to wear a mask” (February 17, 2020) … “it is very important for people to universally wear masks” (July 29, 2020) (oh, but wait, the first lie was okay because it was to protect the public health community (June 12, 2020)) … “it just makes common sense that [double-masking] likely would be more effective” (February 2, 2021).
Herd immunity will kick in at 60–70 percent … no wait, 70–75 percent … no wait, 75–85 percent … no wait, 70–80+ percent … no wait, 90 percent (December 24, 2020) … oh, forget about herd immunity, will you (May 5, 2021) … just everybody get vaccinated, dammit (February 21, 2021).
“The NIH has not ever, and does not now, fund ‘gain of function research’ in the Wuhan Institute” (May 5, 2021) … “I can’t guarantee” that’s not happening (June 2, 2021).
“[The scientific evidence] is very, very strongly leaning toward this could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated” (May 5, 2020) … “I am not convinced about [COVID-19 originating naturally]” (May 24, 2021).
And the punchline: “I am consistent. I stick by what I say” (June 12, 2020).

There are hypoctitical ideological conservatives 'pontifcating' with an obsession over mis-information and conspiracy theories discussed by Tucker Carlson on his TV show.
If Carlson told you one of the sure fire cures for Covid is to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you do it?
These right wing ideologues are so angry at being displaced-- and terrified tht they're becoming irrelevant as the Pragmatic Populism fostered by Trump expands.
Never forget: 'The United Kingdom's pound sterling was the primary reserve currency of much of the world in the 19th century and first half of the 20th century until the UK almost bankrupted itself fighting World War I and World War II, resulting in the Pound losing its status as the world's most important reserve currency in favor of the United States dollar.'
China hasn't forgot. And it's goal is to surpass the U.S. economy by 2034; which will torpedo the dollar.

Dental records confirm that the human remains recovered at the Florida environmental park are of Brian Laundrie, the FBI said on Thursday.
The FBI's Denver field office released a statement saying that "a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park" were of Laundrie.
The partial human remains recovered at the environmental park where Laundrie was last believed to have been a day ago were described as "skeletal," a North Port police spokesperson had confirmed to News 4 earlier in the day. Two senior law enforcement officials also told NBC News that the apparent human remains found during the search included a portion of a human skull.
...
In addition to the human remains, the FBI said investigators found a backpack and a notebook believed to belong to Laundrie near a path at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. The agency added that up until recently, the items were underwater, and were only found now that the water had receded -- an investigative boon Bertolino had suggested would help search teams two weeks ago.

I’ll have you know that Joe Biden commuted over two and a half million felons.

P&P- I wanna see him drive an 18-wheeler, work a Polaroid SX-70, feed his Pet Rock and program the clock on a Betamax.

Hunter hasn’t been to dinner at the big house ever since Uncle Joe told him he never had the makings of a varsity athlete.

--The partial human remains recovered at the environmental park where Laundrie was last believed to have been a day ago were described as "skeletal," a North Port police spokesperson had confirmed to News 4 earlier in the day. --
Can't we even get slightly literate "journalists"?
Either the buzzards and the gators picked him clean in a day or the order of those words need some serious reshuffling.

CNN presents Baltimore Joe…
Coop’s not wearing a mask; neither is Joe. But my God— his make-up is caked on. And right out of the box– ‘the $3.5 trillion is paid for- it won’t cost you a thing.’
He truly must think this is a nation of idiots.

WORST.
POTUS.
EVER.

Joe poor-mouths again- saying he made just $42,500 and had to raise his kids on that... $42,500 in 1974 = $239,800 in 2021 dollars.
He's an idiot.

DCSCA,
I forgot he was on that town hall tonight. He IS the worst, and I was born in the Truman Administration.
I have been watching antique appraisals on You Tube.

"My proposals will reduce inflation!" - President Plagiarist in Baltimore; 10/21/21.
Reality check AGAIN from today: Oscar Mayer bacon--- $12.49/14 oz. pkg; London Broil-- $10.00/lb., milk- $3.49/gal.; posted notice: Coca-Cola; Pepsi deliveries suspended "indefinitely"-- supply issues. And next door, Shell regular- $5.10/gallon.
This jerkoff and gave us this Carter Redux.
He's an idiot. And a bum.

He's worse than an idiot.
He stands a fair chance of starting a civil war and/or destroying the economy and defaulting on our debt and/or delivering us up to China.
The disastrous, basically insane policies and rhetoric he is pursuing carry the germs that usher in revolutions, massive political realignments and occasionally world wars.
His towering arrogance, invincible ignorance and surpassing corruption only come along combined in one man once or twice a century. He's the Fearless Fosdick of presidents.
Loins girded.

The more he talks in those second hand phrases and empty platitudes the worse he sounds.
Biggest damn sh-t-shoveling idiot to ever sit in the Oval. In my near 70 years I've never despised a politician as much as this jerk. He sucked in the early 70s when we'd get his hot air piped into South Jersey on Channel 12 out of Wilmongton-- and blows today.
A total swamp creature. If he was from Florida, he'd have eaten Laundrie's body for lunch.

Iggy- Absolutely.
A total lazy brained buffoon.
Hated him for 45 years.
