What will be the top "feel-good" stories of 2022? Nadia Popovic broke strong from the gate with this one:
Kraken fan Nadia Popovici lauded for pointing out Canucks equipment manager Brian Hamilton’s cancerous mole during game
Nadia Popovici hadn’t woken up yet when what she had done to save a life was going viral on hockey Twitter.
A 2019 University of Washington graduate about to go to medical school, she worked at a crisis hotline overnight on New Year’s Eve. It was a shock to find out upon waking she had become a story.
“I woke up with my mom’s phone call and she was like, ‘Nadia, you have no idea what’s going on,'” she said. “She sent me the statement the (Canucks) put out, and it said they were looking for me. There was a lot of screaming. I couldn’t believe it.”
Popovici, who goes to Kraken games with her stepfather’s season tickets, was the subject of a search from Canucks assistant equipment manager Brian “Red” Hamilton, who said Saturday morning via a Twitter statement from the team Popovici had saved his life.
When the Canucks were at Climate Pledge Arena on Oct. 23, the Kraken’s home opener, Popovici — sitting behind the Canucks bench — typed a message out on her phone, knocked on the plexiglass and got Hamilton’s attention. “The mole on the back of your neck is cancer,” the message read.
Hamilton got medical treatment and eventually went on Twitter to find and thank her (so much for searching by way of glass slippers...).
Wild.
That is a good story.

Ghislaine Maxwell's prosecutors have taken notice of a juror's interviews with multiple news outlets.
They suggest the court conduct an inquiry in a month about whether he disclosed having been a victim of sexual abuse in his jury questionnaire.
Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyer Christian Everdell responds to the letter, claiming the revelation regarding the juror "presents incontrovertible grounds for a new trial under Rule 33."

MM2. I arrived in DC on Labor Day 1986. That year there were two snowstorms in four days.
The METRO trains lost a lot of service because many of the nodes that connect the train to power were not winterized. The trains were so crowded that when they reached my stop, Virginia Square, there was no room.
So, being a smart military man, I got on a train going in the other direction to the end of the line. Got off and then back on. I got to work.
That night, on the TV news, I discovered that they were arresting anyone who did what I did because we were depriving METRO of the difference in the cost of a ticket from Virginia Square, and one from Vienna ($2.00).
The next day, I jumped into the car, an automatic, threw it into second, and chugged to work.

The Democrat J6 narrative has a true “Truman Show” aura surrounding it.
Today has brought forth some amazing tweets from brave firefighting members of the media about what a trauma it was - but don’t worry, they are still getting paid and living in places you can’t afford but they want you to know how incredibly hard it is to continue their balanced and unbiased reporting.
They want you to know how stunning and brave they are and if they weren’t standing in the breach, Thanos would have captured that last Infinity Stone and life as we know it would have been over.
The insane tweets from the media and Congressional members about how J6 was a PTSD level trauma combined with their penchant to equate a what was essentially a limited riot (sometimes assisted by Capitol Police) with true military and terrorist attacks on the homeland, serve to create real questions about the mental health of these people and what coddled, insular lives they must have led.
It's not that they haven't seen or are aware of violence, violence is just something that happens to other people. They live sheltered lives and violence is something they see from a distance or hear about from a source.
To believe that they watched (and supported ANTIFA/BLM) as they burned and pillaged while good people retreated to their homes as their businesses burned and then freaked out over people putting their feed on Pelosi's desk and have PTSD due to the QAnon Shaman can only be explained by their own mental weaknesses.
And to equate J6 with 9/11, Pearl Harbor or the Oklahoma City bombing is to put comic book authors on the same literary level as Shakespeare or Solzhenitsyn (no offense to any comic book authors who read this because many comic book story lines are more believable than the Democrat’s J6 myth).
To contemporize it, they believe J6 was the real-life version of Marvel's Infinity War, and the Republicans are the minions of Thanos - because that context makes emotional sense to them.
Of course, the political mercenaries like Pelosi and other Democrat operatives are aware of what it really was and they are likely completely cognizant of how to prosecute a terror campaign targeted toward their weak-minded acolytes, essentially using them as cannon fodder.
Most of the infantile cannon fodder most assuredly have never heard or understood the Soviet era term "useful idiot". The laptop class that has adopted the idea that J6 was an "attack on democracy" or the equivalent to the invasion of Normandy openly display how proud they are of how weak, soft, and quite frankly, stupid, they are.
As is the custom in such a frivolous, unserious, and ignorant age as ours, we really should consider the level of maturity of the messenger as we consider the message.
To quote the aforementioned Billy Shakes, the J6 myth"...is a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
The problem is real lives of real people are being ruined over this. They are being jailed, prosecuted, and forced to publicly shame themselves by recanting their beliefs. Who is to blame? Mostly it is the political assassins and mercenaries but a large share of it falls on the shoulders of the useful idiots who are shoveling coal into the firebox, building steam pressure in the boiler.
In saner times, the backstory to this past year – the prevarications, the myths, the arbitrary and capricious enforcement of the law and the openly unequal treatment of the J6 protestors when compared to the white glove treatment of the ANTIFA/BLM miscreants – would be Pulitzer material (if the Pulitzer committee still retained any objectivity at all) for some intrepid mainstream journalist interested in the truth.
But these are not sane times.
Never forget, the Democrats may own the narrative for the time being, but they do not own the truth.
Keep spreading the truth.
As Mr. Universe told Captain Mal Reynolds (fans of Firefly will get this one), “You can’t stop the signal.”

I must admit to viewing the statements from the new Manhattan DA, especially in light of a year or more of similar approaches to crime carried out by other Soros backed DA’s in other large cities, with a degree of morbid fascination.
Fox News’ Eric Shawn interviewed newly elected Alvin Bragg and asked if his policies were going to give criminals a “green light”.
Bragg answered:
“No! I mean it depends upon your definition of criminal. For all too long, we have dealt with this 'othering,' that anyone we put in jail is a criminal. Well, you know what, we are putting in jail homeless people, who literally in one example used one counterfeit bill to buy food and toothpaste, got a sentence of four to eight years, so if that's your definition of criminal, I suggest that we really need to reorder ourselves."
So, crime is not crime if the perpetrator really, really needs something.
It appears that police and the public must entertain the “quality” of an action rather than basing it against objective criteria defined by mutual consent of the larger society. Theft is no longer theft if the perpetrator “really needs” something or they are of a socio-economically disadvantaged segment of the population – and because this criterion is impossible to define, all crimes must be treated this way for fear of arresting one criminal whose heart is in the right place.
My fascination comes from the leftist idea that crime was a creation of an elite, white power structure (the same one that invented Western civilization and culture, of course), the purpose of which was to control the lower classes and to keep minorities and the poor down through incarceration. To think the concept of crime was the creation of Western civilization is to completely ignore that every aggregation of people in the history of history that wanted to create a civil society laid down basic formal and informal rules of interpersonal behavior to facilitate getting along.
From the Stone Age forward in time, and on every continent, societies have laid down the law. The first legal code of which we are aware was that of King Urukagina (who ruled a couple of cities in Mesopotamia around 2400 BC) and as far as I know, Mesopotamians and Sumerians weren’t honkies.
Law wasn’t just a white thing, and neither was the idea of crime.
If anything, Western civilization, and America in particular, improved societies greatly by instituting the ideas that people are not assumed to be guilty but are innocent until proven otherwise within an adversarial justice system that is fair to all.
The very essence of unfairness and unequal treatment is the arbitrary and capricious application of law as executed by these leftist DA’s. They are effectively substituting themselves for judge and jury in these matters.
This is just another iteration of the anti-capitalist/pro-communist attempt to destroy Western culture, capitalism, and America though class warfare by establishing the idea that crime is the result of the justice system rather than the justice system being made necessary by crime.
This process also heavily draws from the communist idea that there should be no such thing as private property and the right to being secure in your own person, because in their twisted minds, no private property means nothing to steal and no right to be secure within your person means no crimes to commit.
What it does do is create a particular lawless class of people who are impervious to the rules of civil society and prevents the police from executing their duties and responsibilities to protect the people and property that are targets of this class.
All you need to do is look at LA, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and New York City for the results of this kind of thinking. Consider that Krasner in Philly, Gascon in LA and Boudin in San Fran are all facing recall efforts even as we speak.
You must ask why people vote for these characters in the first place. Heavyweight black leaders from Harlem endorsed this guy - the same as powerful people supported Krasner, Gascon and Boudin.
I can’t really blame Bragg; he explicitly ran on a crazy platform to decriminalize crime – and that is what he is doing.
I know, this is nuts – but when have bad ideas ever stopped the committed leftist?

Adam Schiff-- who knows a thing or two about imperiling our democracy via the outrageous lying route--claimed and still claims it was an "attack on our democracy".
Meanwhile aging 8th grade drama queen AOC ("Republicans are angry because they want to have sex with me") was huddled in a basement two buildings away from the action hoping(?) wishing(?) somebody would come assault her precious body.

There have been several terrorist attacks in Washington, DC. People were killed and wounded by shrapnel.
Ashli Babbitt may have been rioting but she didn't deserve a bullet in the back of the head.
How much damage was done to the building or the people inside? A few broken windows; someone stole Nancy's laptop and someone removed the Speaker's podium and left it somewhere else in the building. Some insurrection.
And hundreds of riots across the country where no one was prosecuted where people were seriously injured, especially cops.
Civil war? Try that shit on my block.

How long are you going to be in the stir, JIB?

Jim Eagle - I am surprised that they are being with held. Even though I have problems with both programs, most of the world communicates using them.

Well that is certainly a disappointing end to that story, as in shut up juice.

NEW: Biden misleadingly lumped the murder of Capitol Police Officer Billy Evans by Farrakhan follower Noah Green on 4/2/21 in with the Capitol riot of 1/6/21. Full remarks show how Evans is evoked without proper context in the middle of Capitol riot talk.

First, the CDC said the omicron variant was 75% of cases. Then, they said they were wrong and it was more like 25%. Now, they suddenly say it is 95.4%?!

Astronomers witness a dying star reach its explosive end
For the very first time, astronomers have imaged in real time the dramatic end to a red supergiant's life, watching the massive star's rapid self-destruction and final death throes before it collapsed into a Type II supernova.
Includes a neat artist's video.

Magnetic utility poles?
Probably not, but I've gotten to wonder about one particular set of poles on my street.
I've been living on this street for about 8 years now and the first pole I remember at that location is now a subterranean stump embedded in the sidewalk.
The road bends a little around there, but there are two two other poles before that on the bend, so that location seems to have some more attraction than the prior poles.
I'm not sure how many times that pole got hit by a car, but the last time was spectacular. It took out the pole completely, tore a large chunk out of a poured-concrete wall that surrounds a large nursing home behind it and darkened the neighborhood with a power loss.
So they had to completely replace that pole about two years ago. Not long after that the pole got hit again. Put a good-sized dent in it. Then it got hit again. Put a decent fracture in the pole, enough that they put in a new pole behind it and transferred most of the important utility wiring to the third pole.
PSE&G put a splint on the damaged pole and wrapped that tightly with rope until the other providers, like phone and cable, could move their stuff to the newer pole.
Tuesday night we had a minuscule amount of freezing rain, but it was enough to touch off hundreds of black-ice car accidents in the tri-state area.
Wednesday, on my usual daily walk to the local corner stores, I noticed the usual typical car accident debris as I approached the pole. Somebody else managed drive into it and fracture what was left of the pole and took another chunk out of the nursing home boundary wall.
Maybe it's the wall and the pole just gets in the way? Maybe it's the rebar in the wall. That's it - magnetized rebar.

Then again, maybe inattentive, drunk or weather -challenged drivers are faced with a decreasing margin of error. Those two, or three feet they usually manage to drive distant from the curb diminish just a tad as they round the bend at the first pole, a little more at the second pole and then the third pole in a row just kind of presents itself.
"Officer, I was driving just fine when all of a sudden this stupid utility pole jumped in front of me."
Yeah, that's one way of looking at it. Not realizing that you've screwed up a little bit at each point in time until your errors are compounded into disaster.

For some damn reason I can’t get Facebook or Twitter at my rehab facility.
My guess is that they don't want their workers using it instead of working, so it's blocked on their free Wifi.
Try using your phone's cellular data to connect to the internet, not the rehab's wifi.
Just turn off Wifi on Settings and make sure Cellular Data is on.
If you are using an iPad or MAC laptop to surf the net, you can use your Apple phone's hot spot to connect.
On your phone, Go to Settings, turn on Bluetooth and Personal HotSpot and Cellular Data. Make sure Wifi is off. Then type the password from the phone in on your device to connect your device to your phone.
