I have long thought the pandemic responses were simply opportunistic Cloward-Piven strategies based on a virus with a middling danger potential.
Not to say it wasn't deadly for some, but we knew, in short order, who the most vulnerable were, but instead the "public health" bureaucrats chose to peanut butter spread a response all over America, a one-size-fits all approach that didn't fit 80% of America.
But it failed.
Omicron is an attempt to keep the con alive.
The risk in confidence schemes is the more they fail and are revealed, the less confidence there is. Con men rarely find welcoming audiences the second time around, they have to search for new gullible populations or change the con.
Omicron is that. A new variant of the old con - and people are noticing.
That's why the feds are hell bent on mandates and legal maneuvering.
The only people who are fooled today are people who want to be fooled. Believing there is a right not to get sick is simply the latest con for those who believe there is some weird sort of nobility, self-righteousness or smug superiority in being a victim.
The interesting thing about being a victim is that it takes zero effort to become one. Anybody can claim harm and declare themselves a victim, and as long as there are recognition, profit or advantage in being one, people will claim that title.
News flash: most victims are not victims at all.
News flash #2: Nothing the government has done has eliminated Covid in the way polio, smallpox and measles were eradicated. Even the "vaccines" are not "vaccines", rather they are therapeutics, reducing the severity of the illness. They are an expensive version of Tamiflu.
The other realization people are coming to is that smug, arrogant, self-righteous people are easy to scare and fool, and not surprisingly, those are the easiest people to control and weaponize.
And that is the real goal of the left.

The thing about ideologues is they are always liars.
Liars don't worry about losing trust because they think they can just tell another lie to fix it.
But the fact is there are very, very few talented liars, primarily because being a talented liar means being a very limited and discreet liar, only doing so when absolutely necessary and only doing so plausibly.
But ideologues lie first and foremost to themselves and so their lies are close to limitless because maintaining their utopian worldview requires almost limitless lying.
And so they erode and eventually destroy the credibility of any institution they dominate, not so much by choice but of necessity.
Their True Believer base wants to be lied to and so gobbles them up, but for the vast middle eventually there comes an attached cost to accepting prog lies.
At that point you have a struggle between the social costs progs try to impose culturally for those who resist the narrative and the increasingly expensive and real costs people bear as prog policies based on their lies come to very expensive fruition.
Eventually the real costs exceed whatever social costs they can impose and that is when things get dangerous, because authoritarianism is the only way to increase social costs further at that point.
This is where we find ourselves.

The House J6 Committee and Pelosi's two hand picked NeverTrump "Republicans" are the perfect distillation of how retreating into your ideology and living in world isolated from logic and reality can make you blindly self-righteous.
It is pretty clear they have a feeling of moral superiority, derived from the fallacious sense that their beliefs, actions, and associations are of greater virtue than those of the average person - you.
Combine that with emotional reasoning that drives them, and despite all evidence and facts, Trump was/is nothing they portray him to be, but they believe it, so it is not a lie.
They have become messianic, cult-like. As much as the pandemic was an example of a mass formation psychosis, the Trump hate is just another example of the same.
Liz Cheney has become a perverse little cartoon character, Pelosi's personal marionette. She is so delusional, she talks openly about running for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024 when just getting reelected to her House seat may prove to be a much bigger challenge than she expects.
It is sad and comical at the same time - and if our country wasn't being damaged by these people and their fevered dreams, it might be fun to watch them push their personal auto-destruct buttons.

I love both towns. Houghton for "The Library". Marquette used to be one of Pizza Hut's test restaurants for the entire country. Best pies from a national pizza chain ever.
