The dash to dumb gets a new land speed record - a CNN contributor explains thats the San Francisco school board recall (backed by the progressive mayor and succeeding with about 75% of the vote) was a nefarious right wing propaganda ploy. Yeah, registered Reps are about 6% of the San Fran electorate but they sure can leverage their clout.
San Francisco school board recall sends a dangerous message
...
This week's recall election in San Francisco is following a similar pattern. Three school board members lost their seats in a recall effort fueled by so many different issues that observers could easily play pick-your-own-narrative.
There were extended pandemic school closures, a ham-handed effort to rename schools commemorating Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, among other figures, in the name of social justice, an attempt to move away from testing and GPA requirements for admission into high-ranking public schools, a growing achievement gap, an enormous budget deficit and, in the case of one school board member, the use of a racial slur in an anti-Asian rant. All that makes trying to sum up the lessons of the recall a tall order.
Well, those were the issues all right. So what lesson does she take away?
But while the results in San Francisco may resist simple analysis, the politics swirling around the recall tell us something important about a process underway across the country. In San Francisco, deep-pocketed, right-leaning donors shoveled money into the recall, while activists and media outlets began using language that lashed together the disparate dissatisfactions into a coherent message.
And that coherent message swayed the mayor and roughly 75% of San Fran voters. Those tricky righties!
She closes with an exhortation to the media to Do Better:
Democratic politicians often lack courage when backlash politics are in motion, as likely to jump on the outrage bandwagon as shrink into the shadows, waiting for it to blow over. But they and progressive activists have a responsibility to counter moral panics with narratives more rooted in reality and more concerned with those whose needs are being overlooked.
That's the spirit! If libs are re-naming schools while refusing to open them, its up to the press to explain why!
Peggy Noonan (no doubt a part of the right-wing conspiracy here) provides a different take on San Francisco.
First successful recall since 1914, so of course the Board of Supervisors needs to "reform" the recall process and BACKDATE IT.

All of the talk by the dems on money for helping the poor, education, environment , etc. is simply a way to hire more bureaucrats to perform studies, form committees, etc. In other words, what their voters think they are doing is wrong.
It’s simply a money program for the elite and their minions. Not a dime goes to what their campaign slogans tell voters.

By and large I've refused to read Peggy Noonan for the last five or six years. She lost her way in maybe 2016. But even a stopped clock is right now and then.
That can't be said for such as Nicole Hemmer. The problem with her and others of her ilk is that they presume to have the only "right" knowledge and opinions. What Nicole doesn't realize is that opinions are like noses--and everybody has one. And sometimes one's opinion is correct--and sometimes not.

So the Red Guard are accusing the rest of the crazy SF libs of being racist. How absolutely delicious. How absolutely absolutist!
There's nothing like a little democracy to strike the fear of Gaia into these ideologues. They will probably exile themselves to Berkeley or Oakland to start a school board in exile.
But first they need to thread the gauntlet of closed Rite Aids, needles and excrement. Not sure if they can do that with blinders on.
Abandon hope all ye who enter San Fran.

Odds of Germany bailing on our grand plan? Your guess is much better than mine, Clarice.
Having said that, here are my wildly speculative thoughts.
I don't think there is a single world leader that has respect for Biden. I mean, Stacey Abrams was busy the day Biden was in town? Is Germany so impressed by Biden it's willing to go along with a wag-the-dog war? Assuming that is Biden's plan.
So, Germany bailing on Biden seems like a pretty good bet.
But I don't really know what to believe. At first, I thought Biden was squawking about a war that would never happen so that he could then claim his brilliant foreign policy strategies achieved world peace.
Then the shelling started, although I haven't heard anybody say for sure who's shelling whom. The Institute for the Study of War predicts Russia will actually invade tomorrow, but then Bill Kristol is on its board, for what that's worth.
If Russia goes through with an invasion, I expect Biden will follow in Obama's footsteps, do nothing, and concede territory to Russia.
Meanwhile, Durham's court filings are exposing what seems to be a seditious conspiracy against Trump by the Clinton campaign, the DOJ, the FBI, the CIA, the State Department, and the Obama White House. That particular conspiracy theory coming true might have Biden wishing for war, but given his track record, I can't imagine him making it work in his favor politically.
My wildly speculative wildcard is the World Economic Forum, which according to Klaus Schwab has infiltrated a great many western governments. Will war help or hinder its plans for the Great Reset now that the virus is dying out and with it go hopes for universal vaccine passports and a social credit scheme? Maybe Canada under Justin Trudeau is the WEF proof of concept in the works.

I would agree, Beasts. Good to see you and read your wisdom.
As to Germany, the die was cast when Tante Angela gave the go ahead for Nord 2. The Germans have been infiltrated since the Cold War with plenty of ex Stai around to serve Mother Russia.
In addition, Russia is the #2 market for many of Germany's exports right behind China.
At the same time the whole socialist/green mentality has taken the country over. My friends there can't believe how idiotic the average German has become. They are no longer our allies, especially when the commander of the Kriegsmarine makes excuses for Putin.
Putin has ratcheted and ratchet the situation up and this is clearly a war of aggression. Our European allies stood with us in Iraq and Afghanistan. We need to stand with them if NATO means a thing.
This is the Bear & the Eagle, same as it was until 1989. Biden has done his best to enable Russia and so, if the trigger gets pulled, which it seems to now be, do we hide or do we fight?
After Obama gave the strategy away in 2010 I thought that we should do our best to end the Afghan war. Iraq is now deeply infiltrated by Iran, another of our enemies.
In all of these matters you go big or go home.
This isn't a world police matter. It is existential. China, Iran, and Russia are working together as we dither.
