Prized Russian Ship Was Hit by Missiles, U.S. Officials Say

WASHINGTON — The Moskva was the pride of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, a symbol of the country’s dominance of the region and a powerful war machine that had been used to launch precision cruise missiles deep inside Ukraine.

Despite claims by Russia that an accidental fire broke out on the ship, U.S. officials confirmed on Friday that two Ukrainian Neptune missiles had struck the vessel, killing an unknown number of sailors and sending it and its arsenal to the bottom of the Black Sea.

The sinking of the Moskva on Thursday was a grave blow to the Russian fleet and a dramatic demonstration of the current era of warfare in which missiles fired from shore can destroy even the biggest, most powerful ships. It was also the most significant combat loss for any navy since 1982, when Argentina’s Air Force sank a British guided missile destroyer and other ships during the Falklands War.

Did you mean western Ukraine? I read of a missile attack on a site with a name that implied that it served that logistical function.

I presume the Russians are trying to interdict Ukraine's foreign supply lines. I also presume that Ukraine is well aware of that.

Kind of like a cat and mouse game.

I'm sure Russian satellites, drones and spies are working on the issue.

As Mel points out Ukraine is a little coy about releasing photos unless the Russkies hit the wrong thing, like the World Kitchen or that auto repair shop in Lviv.

For those not from Tennessee, Trump got bad advice and endorsed way too early. This is the "new district" and 24 people applied for the primary. The Trump endorsed is a DC person who moved to the state in November, the district in Feb., never lived in the state before. Could not even identify the interstates (which cut all through the district) in a radio interview, all money raised from Romney/Bush out of state. Great resentment in the district. We have several quite good and established reps running.
