The Euros have already declared NG as green to keep themselves from a complete breakdown of society. So why not oil and coal, which are derived from the same biomass?

In short: the war is over. The US will try to send over another $40 billion in “aid” -at least half of it weapons-, but there’ll be nobody left to handle the small fraction that is not destroyed by Russia. And just like the Russians can simply wait for the last Azov troops to leave the steel compound, they can also sit back and track any NATO weapons deliveries, and then take them out. It is really over. Unless we go all out Napoleon. I don’t think we will.

Meanwhile, we should all be happy that the war is over. Well, are we?

I think a good case can be made they have largely achieved their most important objectives; secure the Donbas and the Black/Azov sea coast to Crimea.

Once the ethnic Russian portions of Georgia had been secured and granted effective autonomy Putin relented, and he may do so in Ukraine as well. He may reinforce occupied eastern and southern Ukraine and make a renewed push toward Odessa, which is majority ethnically and linguistically Russian, and perhaps even Moldova, but I doubt it, especially the latter.
We'll see.

I was just pointing out that Russia has suffered massive casualties and are continuing to do so. All of those tank and truck and BTR carcasses are hard to replace while the Ukrainians have received a brigade's worth of T-80's from Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and others. They continue to receive anti-tank weapons and their use of drones has been brilliant.

Mariupol is like Berlin ca 1945. A wasteland. All of those troops now need to occupy what is now worthless territory.

Even in Donetsk and Luhansk people are turning against the brutality of the Russian war machine.

Crimea 1856, Eastern Front 1917, Finland 1939, Gates of Moscow 1941. The Russian Army hasn't done well in its foreign wars, and if they hadn't received Lend Lease would have been out of the fight in WW II.

They will defend the Matriya, but unless it is an invasion as brutal as Hitler's, I don't think have the mindset for successful conquest.

Their economy is collapsing. They can't get parts like advanced optics, electronic components or industrial equipment and they don't have the quality of reserves they would need to go back on the offensive.

Putin is micromanaging the way Hitler and Johnson did, and that doesn't turn out well. So they will use massed artillery, but for what if they can't hold ground?

P.S. Russian naval casualties have been surprisingly high as well. And worse, the overall quality and maintenance across the military have proven to be utterly substandard.

And now Finland and Sweden have formally applied for NATO membership, thus creating a solid line of NATO opposition from the Arctic to the Bosporus.

This may have been the worst miscalculation in modern military history right up there with Hitler's June 1941 invasion.
