It sure is about time Narc! Zelensky had a chance for peace before Russia invaded and chose war instead. Why didn't he accept German chancellor Scholz's peace initiative just days before the invasion? NATO had already told him Ukraine would never be admitted so why didn't he agree to a neutral Ukraine? IMO, we, the US wanted war and that's why NATO told him in private, no membership but they'd publicly claim membership was possible.
--Regarding everyone blaming NATO for provoking Putin; bullshit.
Georgia, Moldova, Abkhazia, Belarus, South Ossetia, Chechnya, Crimea etc, etc.
Putin is an expansionist who wants to reconstitute the USSR. He is a cold blooded killer.--
Georgia - we engineered a color revolution which enflamed already existing ethnic tensions and threatened Russia's sphere of influence, including the Black Sea. Putin predictably invaded after this provocation.
Moldova - an ethnic conflict occurred involving ethnic Russians seeking autonomy. Russia intervened and stopped the fighting. Before Putin was in power.
Abkhazia - same thing only it was part of Georgia and was also before Putin.
Belarus - we tried to stage a color revolution and failed.
South Ossetia - see Georgia.
Chechnya - It's been part of Russia for 200 years.
Crimea - it's been part of Russia for over 200 years and was only part of Ukraine because Khrushchev gave it to Ukraine in the 50s. It was only after the coup we supported in 2014 threatened Russia's use of Crimea that Putin invaded.
When I say "we" I mean the by far dominant member of NATO, the country that first promised Russia Ukraine would never be part of NATO and then promised Ukraine it would be.
What is curiously missing from that list for a guy trying to reconstitute the Soviet Empire is any country of Eastern Europe and/or the Warsaw Pact.
Also missing is Kazhakstan where not coincidentally just a month or two before Russia invaded Ukraine we helped stage an attempted coup.
Putin and Russia have made clear for decades that Ukraine, Georgia, Belarus and Kazhakstan are red lines for their national security purposes they will not tolerate inference in.
We have systematically interfered in every single one of them.
When the people who claim Putin is solely to blame and we are not, can muster anyone telling us why NATO expansion to Russia's borders is a great idea and not a dangerous provocation, with even 1/10th the experience and bona fides of Kissinger, Kennen and Mearsheimer telling us it is not, I might listen. But when it's Biden, Blinken and Nodd and a bunch of idiot warmongering neo cons and neo libs who have kept us in a perpetual state of war that has severely weakened us both internally and externally over the last 20 years it wouldn't matter if no significant person opposed their plans. That crew is always wrong and always dishonest about what they're doing and why they're doing it.
I don't see it that way Matt. Why would NATO tell Zelensky privately they wouldn't be allowed NATO membership but tell the world they would, if not to bait Russia into war? Zelensky was elected because he promised peace in the Donbas, then he allowed his nazi thugs to attack the Russian speaking people in the east for 8 years. That's the way I see it!

One of the people I follow on Facebook, an American who is in Poland just posted this:
"Constitution Day here in Poland.
"3 May Constitution Day (also 3rd May National Holiday; Polish: Święto Konstytucji 3 Maja) is a Polish national and public holiday that takes place on 3 May. The holiday celebrates the declaration of the Constitution of 3 May 1791.
Festivities date back to the Duchy of Warsaw early in the 19th century, but it became an official holiday only in 1919 in the Second Polish Republic. Delisted during the times of the Polish People's Republic, it was reestablished after the fall of communism in modern Poland."
Included in an article about "The Horrifying American Roots of Nazi Eugenics"
"...The Harriman railroad fortune paid local charities, such as the New York Bureau of Industries and Immigration, to seek out Jewish, Italian and other immigrants in New York and other crowded cities and subject them to deportation, trumped up confinement or forced sterilization.
The Rockefeller Foundation helped found the German eugenics program and even funded the program that Josef Mengele worked in before he went to Auschwitz..."
--I see the media is talking about the referendum road for stealing Donbas from Ukraine.--
That's essentially the promise that Ukraine made in writing in the Minsk II agreement. Had they abided by it, rather than bombarding the Donbas, they almost certainly wouldn't have Russians in their country breaking things.
It occurred to me yesterday that the effect of the premature release of the abortion decision will most likely drive out the “moderates”, especially from the Democrat ranks of candidates.
Of course, this will make the Democrats look even more radical than otherwise. It will be much harder to not look crazy.
Azovstal steel plant evacuees never arrived in Zaporizhzhia, Mariupol mayor says
The mayor said the civilians came from 'other cities'
By Lawrence Richard | Fox News
The civilians who arrived in Zaporizhzhia Tuesday were not the ones who were evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol days earlier, according to its mayor.
The buses allegedly carrying Ukrainian civilians from the Azovstal steel plant were not actually from Mariupol but from "other cities," Mayor Vadym Boichenko said during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
"The previous evacuation, which took place yesterday, which was presented by a number of media outlets as information that those were the residents of Mariupol who left, is not true. These people who were evacuated had nothing to do with the residents of Mariupol, they are from other cities," Boichenko said.
That was much more a review of the people who made 2000 Mules than the actual movie.
The actual conclusions about the movie itself were not overly persuasive and some of his terminology makes me question Applebaum's own motives. It has been RINOs who have been pushing the election fraud narrative? He must have a different definition of RINO than me because all the RINOs I know have been hushing the subject up.
Phillips may be a bum but even bums are right at times. Just saying he exaggerated this or that or didn't know the proper terms about this or that or that no one was prosecuted after the fact is not nearly as dispositive as he seems to think.
Nobody is yet in prison for the shenanigans that occurred against Trump yet either and it is unlikely anyone important ever will be. Some people have even exaggerated what happened for their own personal gain. Did it therefore not happen?

Dutch Party Asks Zelensky to Account for $850 Mln Personal Wealth-April 27, 2022
Ilya Kiva, a Ukrainian opposition lawmaker who was stripped of his mandate last month, alleges that “hundreds of millions of dollars” are being wired to accounts controlled by the president’s office, where they are being plundered, not just by Zelensky and his staff, but by “Western politicians who get kickbacks for their [countries’] assistance”. Kiva has suggested that Zelensky’s earnings have recently jumped to about “$100 million a month”.
I've missed some updates, but the Ukrainians seem to be doing the finesse against force thing still.
I've seen two reports of artillery attacks on Russian HQs. A week old one, or so, at Kherson and a more recent one near Izium. That can mess with the planning of things.
George W Bush Will Campaign for GA Republican Candidate Brian Kemp, The GOP Club Have Set The Stage
Georgia Democrats will vote for incumbent republican governor Brian Kemp this month because that’s who they want on the ticket in the November general election, facing their candidate, Stacy Abrams. Georgia is the homebase of the AME church network and their political operations. This is part of the reason why Georgia politics is: (a) racially divisive; and (b) fraught with corruption.
The Russians have had a hardon for the West since Peter the Great. Even in 1917 their army was based upon massed untrained muzhik. Not much seems to have changed. In an article on the Russian dead coming home the families themselves used the same excuses being peddled by state media.
They have a tremendous national inferiority complex and many were devastated when the USSR fell apart when it was billed as the best thing in the world.
NATO was formed as a response to the Russian Army in East Germany, who never left. Remember Berlin '47? There were massive bases for Russian divisions, some of which I saw back in the day. Quantity over quality, which is why we had tactical nukes and A-10's.
The Wall and the fortified border were built to keep people from escaping, not because of NATO aggression. I drove through the Fulda Gap fairly regularly back in the late 70's and saw the police states in Poland and Hungary and East Germany.
Now we have the same dictator we had in the late 90's with the full Beria going on not to serve any form of justice but to destroy dissidents. At least the Ukrainians and Belarusians had the option to protest until Russian tanks entered Minsk to quash the democracy movement.
The Russians are well known for their "referendums" as in Poland in '47 and the other East Bloc countries.
So using NATO as a stalking horse while at the same time believing the West would sell them the rope by which to hang them is cognitive dissonance. The whole Russian mindset is cognitively dissonant. Buying into Putin's lies only validates him.
True, the initial purpose of NATO was to stymie Soviet expansion but since then the got involved in military ops in Africa, the Balkans, Middle East, and Africa. Quite a departure from it’s original charter.
IOW’s a masked arm of American intervention. Not that most were not worthy.

I've seen two reports of artillery attacks on Russian HQs. A week old one, or so, at Kherson and a more recent one near Izium. That can mess with the planning of things.

Matt,
True, the initial purpose of NATO was to stymie Soviet expansion but since then the got involved in military ops in Africa, the Balkans, Middle East, and Africa. Quite a departure from it’s original charter.
