The court is no longer a secular entity. It's a now a political pool of religious zealots hell bent on imposing their views of morality on 333 million citizens. And the damage it has done to itself is truly a tragic turn for America. They've beclowned themselves, eroded respect for it to record lows and torched the tatters of what was once called 'American Exceptionalism.' It will take generations to restore it to any level of institutional respect.

Rocco, I've been reading Paul Johnson's "History of the American People," and he makes a similar point. He writes about earlier settlements in the 16th century that failed, notably one at Roanoke Island (as it was called). He argues that an important difference between those and the successful 17th century ones was that the earlier efforts were not primarily religiously motivated, but were more to profit from trading with the natives.
