Steve Bannon is found guilty of congempt of Congress. Sentencing will be Oct 21, so that's his last chance to do a Mae West callback. In my rich fantasy life we get this:
"Mr. Bannon, are you trying to show contempot for Congress?"
No, your Honor, I'm trying to hide it."
Yeah, I have big dreams...
Who doesn’t have contempt for Congress?
When was the last time they passed a budget? (aka did their job)
What’s with all the hidden grift in continuing resolutions?
Why do they exempt themselves from insider trading laws? (Constitution grants no special status, in fact denies the creation of a titled nobility- these jackasses sure love their titles and act like nobility above the law).
Who cares if such a contemptuous gaggle holds you in contempt? (Holder didn’t, why should Bannon or anyone else)
Posted by: henry | July 23, 2022 at 11:13 AM
Easy to have contempt for such as Schiff, Fat Jer, Kentucky Fried Chicken Cohen, Raskin, Schumer, San Fran Nan et al.
If you don't hold them in contempt, you are simply not looking. I believe Congress's overall approval rating is lower even than that of Kacklin Kamala and her boss Slow Joe.

Posted by: Narciso | July 24, 2022 at 10:32 AM
I posted this question at JOM2 prompted by Clarice's Pieces so thought I'd bring it over here too;
--Academia Neglects Its Most Important Function: A Free Marketplace of Ideas--
Serious question;
Were the Enlightenment, "open" societies and liberalism in the classic sense great, huge mistakes?
My own political migration has been from a mostly libertarian perspective that began to change when I noted the rigidly ideological nature of libertarianism, through the usual Burke, Strauss, Kirk, and all the other mish mashes in between to where I am now, which I'm not sure where here is yet. But just where that is isn't particularly germane to the question.
We have all heard interminably about the market place of ideas and freedom of this and freedom of that. But there are strains of thought that are always and everywhere contrary to freedom. Not only that but they often lead people and then whole nations and eventually the world down the road to serfdom and world war. The Enlightenment and all the rest of the shining city on a hill rhetoric tells us that's the price we pay for our liberties and we all just accept that. But is it? Does it have to be?
We know Nazis and fascists and communists and socialists, despite their usually deceptive rhetoric, are destructive, belligerent collectivists who will destroy political and economic liberty the minute they get the chance. What if all our enlightened assumptions and even the brilliance of our constitution have it all wrong?
What if the normals of the world who just want to be left alone didn't actually have to put up with the grasping crazy ass progs among us? What if gigantic states that destroy our wealth and freedom and huge wars over those ideas weren't necessary? What if Abel, instead of mindlessly tending his garden until his useless brother brains him, instead first put Cain in a cage and then went and tended his garden?
We know collectivism in all its forms is a cancer on mankind so why not outlaw it? You can think it, if you're so inclined because of whatever mental defect with which you are afflicted, but you can't practice it politically. You can't form a political party promoting it nor advocate it publicly. If you do, you go to jail.
Would the world be a worse place if Mao and Hitler and Lenin had finished off their lives in a jail cell somewhere?
We all know the usual objections. Does this idea present those problems? Sure. Are they insuperable? I'm not so sure.
Are they bigger problems than the Somme, Buchenwald, the Holodomor or watching the greatest nation in history dismantled by our collectivist criminals? The measure of this proposal is not a utopian one of 'would it have prevented each one of those problems' but the real world one of 'would it be a better trade off than the present one where the sane have to have wait until the thieves turn the world upside down before they can act to stop the insane'?
It is a truism that in order to have a free society we must tolerate those people who would make it unfree.
Do we? I have considerable and increasing doubts.

I don't know a better way of disarming those who advance false and noxious ideas than open debate to expose the errors they advance. It's why the legal advocacy system works as well as it does.Maybe there is one, I just don't know it. I do believe as I state that not being allowed to challenge stupid ideas in academia increases the number of stupid policies by graduates of academia.

Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | July 24, 2022 at 10:59 AM
enlightenment beliefs only work if the other side believes in limits on state power, on sound science, nowadays biology is a construct referred above, which is criminally ridiculous,
Posted by: Narciso | July 24, 2022 at 10:59 AM
Academia amounts to the bearded Spock universe of my proposal; non-collectivist thought is outlawed.
Here's my objection to the marketplace of ideas concept; it posits that we need an earnest public debate to determine what is good and bad, what is free and unfree or false and noxious.
I say there is nothing new under the sun and the debate was had when Cain clopped Abel on the occiput.
We know to a certainty that collectivism is evil. Screw the debate. That just gives the collectivists another shot at the rest of us. Why start every debate with two equal sides and they both get equal time? The best you can do is fend off the crooks and liars one more time and arrive where you should have started in the first place. One side has proven itself historically as stupid and evil. It's like waking up debating whether I should cook some hammy and eggs or hit myself in the temple with a hammer. Every. Single. Morning.
No thanks. I know the latter is without value and only yields bad results.
I'm not sure it is illiberal to prevent collectivists from using liberalism to enslave us and destroy the world...again.
I'm beginning to think that just maybe entertaining irrational criminals as full and equal co-citizens will only always lead to disaster eventually. As the old joke goes, 'doc, it hurts when I do this.' We all know the punch line.

you look at south of the border, another nihilist nebbish in petro, has taken the board, chinese and russian influences are likely involved, you would think after 73 years the people would know better but an rather significant minority apparently does not, chile was the previous domino, prefaced by a series of riots that prompted the rewriting the constitution that had been set along hayekian precepts although not always observed,

so in this country, when captain oveur started speaking about phasing out fossil fuels, my spidey sense were tingling, forget the fact that the scientific basis was piltdown, the very premise was insane, going further back, same sex marriage, what is that, it is the obliteration of the key foundation of civilization, then we went to the chimera business, we used to call what bruce jenner had a traumatic midlife crisis,

Weird. Eco-warriors protest human-powered bicycle race.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11043613/Hero-Tour-France-fans-justice-hands-tackle-Derni-R-novation.html
Tour de France fans take justice into their own hands and tackle militant eco-protesters before dragging them off the road to stop them blocking the race
Climate activists held a fourth protest at the Tour de France today but were dragged off the road by fans
The incensed bystanders piled into the road and hauled the eco-protesters off the tarmac so bikes could pass
Police later arrived and arrested eight activists from the sideline of the competition, which finishes today
It's like a weird perversion of the American "Great Awakening" has hit Europe in a secular fashion. Of all the permutations of that religious re-awakening they apparently only noticed the end-of-days variants. Upstate NY had a couple of those in the 1800's. One sect, when nothing happened on the appointed day, was told that there had been an error in the biblical calculations.
On an odd note - some of the "French" protestors were wearing hand-lettered t-shirts that read in English "we have 979 days left." Must be a CO2 calculation I don't recognize. On a brighter note none of the protestors had glued themselves to the roadway, possibly because of that earlier French video of a gendarme yanking a prior protestor's supposedly glued hand rudely away from the pavement. No doubt an earlier CO2 re-calculation similar to the biblical one.

The entire administration is a dysfunctional clown show. Real clown shows make you laugh. This one makes you gag.
"Yes, We have no Bananas" is their theme song. Even after 2 years of f-ups and every red light imagineable they still plow ahead like the Titanic.
Instead of Secret Santas they have Secret Commissars.
I would be very happy to see Biden continue to shit his own nest for the next 2 years, but we're talking about the good of the country. I never want to see another Democrat raise their poxed head again after this fiasco.
When people cannot afford to buy staples, I think that's a pretty good definition of a recession.
Never have so many incompetents held office at the same time.
As to the Extinction Rebellion & Ecoterrorists, as long as it's not something like a work of art I would let the glue set and then pull them up/off/away as hard as I could. Make them suffer for their cause instead of going home for croissants and a latte and tales of what they did in the rebolution.

How To Erode the World’s Greatest Military
Alienating half the country is not a wise strategy of military recruitment.
"Fairly or not, the perception among the public and our enemies is that the U.S. military has become a political entity with an agenda that transcends defending the U.S. and its interests.
Its perceived main agenda by half the country is progressive social justice, administered top-down from a cadre of elites who can implement controversial policies through the chain of command without the messy work of the Congress—to the delight of the Pentagon’s newfound sunshine friends on the woke Left."

Women’s Rights Campaigner Says UK Police Visited Her for “Being Untoward About Pedophiles” In YouTube Video
Kellie-Jay Keen, a women’s rights campaigner who often posts YouTube videos about child safeguarding and not wanting men to use women’s spaces, said she was visited by two Wiltshire Police officers after someone complained that one of her videos was being “being untoward about pedophiles.”
Keen said that when she questioned whether it’s a crime to be untoward about pedophiles, the police officers told her that it’s not a crime but “the person was offended” and the incident has been recorded as a “hate crime.”

"10 Biggest Adjustments Fleeing Californians Have To Make In Their New States"
Number nine rang a bell with me. "The weather cycles from hot to cold and back again on an annual basis. Do not be alarmed. These are called "seasons."
When I was posted to Washington by the RAAF in 1986, several of my friends were posted to California. They envied me because I got to experience the four seasons, whereas living in California was almost the same as being back in Australia (Mind you, I just checked Google and it says most of Australia has four seasons. But it's not the same.)

The Daily Beast!:
Hulu, the Disney-backed streaming service, will not run political ads related to abortion, guns, and the Jan. 6 riot, all of which are crucial to Democrats’ midterm election messaging. Party leaders are, as The Washington Post reported, irate. Unlike television networks, Hulu is not limited by the 1934 Communications Act, which demands that broadcast networks give politicians the same level of access to airwaves. “Hulu’s censorship of the truth is outrageous, offensive, and another step down a dangerous path for our country,” executive directors of three Democratic committees said in a statement.
