Donetsk is under massive artillery fire today, as per multiple sources.

Two days ago I was puzzling over the use of NASA FIRMS data being added to the Militaryland maps. Today ISW is also citing that data. So I went back to NASA trying to figure what they see - "NASA FIRMS uses satellite observations from the MODIS and VIIRS instruments to detect active fires and thermal anomalies and deliver this information in near real-time to decision makers through email alerts, analysis ready data, online maps and web services."

OK, so its not just fires. It includes heat anomalies or hot-spots. So I'm still not entirely sure what it "sees" in terms of sensitivity when applied to war machines, but I'm still not seeing what I would expect to see. Yes, there are a lot of single instances, or slightly larger, that are where I would expect to see Russian artillery attacks land. The really big spots, though, are mostly behind Russian lines.

The reports of rocket attacks on Donetsk recently seems to correspond to the FIRMS data.

Toggling between the last two Militaryland maps showing Izium the hot-spots move from east and west of the area to almost entirely west of the area.

To me it looks like a targeting set had changed over the two days. It doesn't look like an artillery duel because it's rather one-sided.

I'm seeing similar things elsewhere - like in the area north of Kherson.

My presumption is that Ukraine is firing off recently obtained MLRS and HIMARS rocket artillery at a target set they've been building and updating daily.

If I'm right - I think I'd target ammo dumps instead of artillery pieces. I'd want to maximize the damage done by every scarce rocket I had.

Got off the phone earlier w/a friend who works in victims rights; GoFundMe accounts and other aid services are in the process of being set up for the Highland Park victims and their families. So help is in work. But my friend said those staffers coordinating efforts are getting very, very fatigued; they’re still dealing w/t aftermath of Uvalde and fielding Buffalo issues as well– and that’s just over the past 90 days. And the greatest concern are ‘copycats.’ They fear and expect it. These armed kids are lost to these dark, social media sites.

The HP presser w/authorities this morning was professional, thorough and quite informative; but it's a safe bet there are other kids in his age range armed and ready to fulfill these dark fantasies stoked on the death culture social media site they frequent. This is less a gun issue anymore and more of a lost youth and generational problem that's festering. My friend tells me the data suggest it's the 18-20 year old, males, loners and mostly white, who commit these acts. It's a problem adults and parents need to address to salvage this generation.
