Democrats keep the Senate, may even keep the House.
One of the many things that will make 2024 interesting - Republicans probably know by now that they have a problem and may even try to fix it. Democrats, on the other hand, may think their party has it all worked out.
IMHO (and that of George Will) someone has to thank Joe and Kamala for their service and push them out the door. That's harder after this recent Dem success in which neither was on the ballot.
From Trump's "Art of the Deal."
"Trump always owns the downside.
When things go south, you are prepared and have a plan in place to take advantage of the situation."
You may come to depend on President Trump's plan.
Things have gone south in this nation. What do you suppose the Nero minded democrats intend to do except light more matches and fiddle?

Republicans probably know by now that they have a problem and may even try to fix it.
To fix it they have to understand what the problem is. It's not Trump. It's that they don't have the ballot harvesting and ballot manufacturing capabilities that the Democrats have. If blue and purple states are going to insist on mail-in voting, the Republicans are going to have to beat the Democrats at their own game. Otherwise those states are lost, no matter who the candidates are.

jimmyk: If blue and purple states are going to insist on mail-in voting, the Republicans are going to have to beat the Democrats at their own game.
That's so true. There's still an attitude among lots of Republicans that since the new voting procedures are bad, they won't participate in them. But Republicans need to play by the rules they have, not the ones they wish they had. The rules will never change as long as they're advantageous to Democrats.
Posted by: MJW | November 13, 2022 at 06:35 PM
The House result, win or lose, is surely a huge disappointment. The Republicans should have won at least twenty new seats. But until very recently hardly anyone expected the Republicans to take the Senate. The Senatorial election map was just too unfavorable.

From an email from a friend: "On November 8, Democrats controlled two of the three branches of government - the executive and legislative. Now, the picture is brighter because come January 3, Republicans will likely lead at least half of Congress, as they are projected to hold a slim House majority. (In addition, as to the third branch of government, the judiciary, 6 of the 9 justices on the Supreme Court were appointed by Republican presidents.) Further, Republicans flipped four House seats in New York, did well in Virginia, further solidified Florida, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas as red states, and continued to make gains among Latinos in key battleground states. And of course, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp again defeated election denier Stacey Abrams. As such, despite the disappointing results, Republicans are better off today than before the election.
There is more good news. Republicans continue to have more power in statehouses than Democrats do, controlling 28 out of 50 governorships"

I wish the Boebert race in Colorado would be called. It's still undecided for both RCP and DDHQ. Boebert's up about 1,100 with, according to RCB, 99% of the vote counted, but as it's Colorado, there's probably some rule allowing votes to come in for who knows how long.

1 - stop Dems from voting in R primaries.
2 - in person voting
3 ID
4 - No harvesting. The added advantage of harvesting is getting a bunch of invalids in a room at the senior center or home, which costs a lot less than having to give them a $10 bill and bottle of Old Frothingslosh.

so the Bobert CO race is among the uncalled? With national ballot curing sealing the steal as we breathe? What is McCarthy doing?
Posted by: henry | November 15, 2022 at 01:30 PM
Boebert is still uncalled, and unchanged, with Bobert up by 1,122 votes. According to RCP, 99% of the vote is counted. Kevin McCarthy won by a 2 to 1 margin.
Posted by: MJW | November 15, 2022 at 01:39 PM

The Dems are now open communists. "Not quite as bad as actual communists" means the thrill is gone for me.
The Reps made the House competitive for the first time in decades in 1994 and they held until 2006. They took it back in 2010 and held it until 2018.
That's 20 years out of the last 28. What do we have to show for it? The country went to hell a great deal less when the damned Dems owned the house for forty years than the last thirty the Reps have.

Well, Trump wants to run. But I think his time has passed. he has just been too much for too many and is the dog whistle for Dems.
One of the big jobs ahead is rebuilding the integrity of the vote. Trump is not that banner carrier. He's a big excuse for the system to unite against him.
Unfortunately he's had bad performance reviews from most of the people he has worked with. It may be politics. It is certainly his personality. But he is also getting older.
I fear for our country in the next 2 years. Our enemies know we are weak willed at the top.
By the way, did anyone catch the announcement that Biden on his own (or his handlers) cancelled our SLBM upgrade program? I think I read about in a foreign newspaper. Every single one of the leaders in defense and fp recommended that we replace our current nuclear cruise missile inventory, but good ole Joe f'd it up again.
The Heritage Foundation report on our defense posture was abominable in its conclusions and there goes Joe rambling on about CO2. CO2 is good for plants. Nuff said.

Visualized: FTX’s Leaked Balance Sheet
"This graphic visualizes FTX’s leaked balance sheet dated to November 10th, and published by the Financial Times on November 12th. The spreadsheet shows nearly $9 billion in liabilities and not nearly enough illiquid cryptocurrency assets to cover the hole."
"The balance sheet he sent around to prospective investors was leaked by the Financial Times, and reveals the exchange had nearly $9 billion in liabilities while only having just over $1 billion in liquid assets. Alongside the liquid assets were $5.4 billion in assets labeled as “less liquid” and $3.2 billion labeled as “illiquid”.
When examining the assets listed, FTX’s accounting appears to be poorly done at best, and fraudulently deceptive at worst.
Of those “less liquid” assets, many of the largest sums were in assets like FTX’s own exchange token and cryptocurrencies of the Solana ecosystem, which were heavily supported by FTX and Sam Bankman-Fried. On top of this, for many of these coins the liquidity simply wouldn’t have been there if FTX had attempted to redeem these cryptocurrencies for U.S. dollars or stablecoin equivalents.
While the liquid and less liquid assets on the balance sheet amounted to $6.3 billion (still not enough to equal the $8.9 billion in liabilities), many of these “less liquid” assets may as well have been completely illiquid."
You don't need to understand finance or balance sheets when you see the graphic presentation of FTX's health to grasp what a shitshow this thing was.
