The cases are quite different in terms of Trump's level of cooperation but the basic fact - Team Biden wandered off with classified docs and stored them somewhat randomly - makes a prosecution of Trump much more dubious. And of course, Biden's "totally irresponsible" description of Trump's behavior will play on an endless loop.
I don't know if this is true but it's been mentioned that congress can't investigate now that a special council's been convened? Another cover his ass by a weaponized IC.
Posted by: Rocco | January 13, 2023 at 01:44 PM
"Trump's level of cooperation"? You imply Trump was in any way uncooperative? Links please?
Trump stored docs in a safe when he was asked to. Mar-a-Lago itself was under some level of Secret Service security due to its status as a POTUS/ex-POTUS residence. There was nothing indicating third parties had access to the docs.
Biden stored docs in a China-funded office, his personal office and his garage. Multiple third parties would have had access. No agency has claimed that they were in any way secured.
Posted by: Another Bob | January 13, 2023 at 02:44 PM
And odd, isn't it, that FBI conducts a large, forced-entry raid to Mar-a-Lago.
But we're relying on Biden's lawyers to tell is about these batches of documents. They pinky swear that these are all of them and they're not "forgetting" to tell us about any others.
Posted by: Another Bob | January 13, 2023 at 02:47 PM
As President Trump could and says he did declassify these documents. As VP Biden could not. But why bother with facts?

Here's your Friday Afternoon Bad News Dump for Friday the 13th.
Posted by: Dave (in MA) | January 13, 2023 at 04:12 PM
Trump's "level of cooperation" is that Orange Man Bad was fully cooperative with the government and dealt with the National Archives multiple times, even upgrading the lock on the room where the docs were being stored--only to have the junta invade his property 2 months later, but don't let facts get in the way of your obsession.
Posted by: Dave (in MA) | January 13, 2023 at 04:16 PM
Here's something else to remember--Obama also took classified documents and stored them insecurely and--whoa! Hillary had classified documents on an unsecured server and the FBI allowed her to simply destroy the evidence. "Dubious", ™? Ridiculously partisan and something that will never wash. The good thing though is is puts that snake Garland in an impossible spot.

it must be wonderful to have the protection of the intelligence community like the old praetorian guard until you become a liability, the Russians call it krisha or roof,
they will look the other way, and they nudge the tech companies to do the same, see taibbis' latest release, about the Nunes memo, and how they put a tail on it, we seem to be importing a whole lot of practices from modern Russia, from Communist Cuba, of course the chinese practice lesuo on those like swalwell, maybe feinstein in her long tenure, she's found out how dispensable she has been to the apparat,

much more than pathetic, years ago when I wrote a paper about the intelligence committee from the post world war one origins, I was more trustworthy
now the times downplayed the holocaust, denied the holomodor (you would think in this day and age, they would try to make amends) I have already referenced matthews and halberstam's criminal mischief, we could add tom friedman's remarkable ability to miss the point, billions of dollars tens of thousands of lives, spent
due to their misreadings,
on the domestic front the myriad of systemic failures from the recent airport fiasco, to the train hangups, to the supply chain messes, not to mention the crumbling cities should suggest something about the nature of power today,

I know that many in the conservative community have proper objections to nixon, I think his china opening in the fullness of time was over blown in effectiveness, some of his domestic iitiatives were worse, wage and price control and the epa for example,
however his cardenal sin, was not only uncovering hiss, but how the entire establishment from the dulles to the stevensons, had enabled him, and had even granted a sinecure, until his next post, at the Carnegie foundation, interestingly that was where the real 'whistleblower' ciamarella ended up,
likewise nunes was a more amiable version of nixon, someone who didn't abide by the notions of beltway conventional wisdom which was just dangerous dross, so he had to go, libeled and eventually forced from Congress for the crime of telling the truth,

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht may leave her post as soon as next week, according to German news outlets. Lambrecht was recently criticized for a New Year's Eve message posted on social media.
The timing is convenient with a decision about the re-export of the German Leopard II tanks to Ukraine looming.
